WOW I wonder who they have lined up to replace him. The relegation battle is going to go all the way, it could be the most dramatic in PL history.

Ridiculous decision, I thought Reading had some fucking brains behind them, it's not the manager's fault the team are absolute shite. |

It's pretty bad when a manager takes a team from the Championship to the PL then doesn't get at least an entire season to prove his worth. Reading would be nowhere if he hadn't have joined them a few years ago, same kind of situation as Adkins at Southampton. Oh well, at least I can hope Reading find a case of new manager syndrome and beat United this weekend. |

Asinine as fuck. You know how much money is at stake for Reading? New PL television deal coming too, so more than usual. As things stand Reading were going to go down, they might as well try something in order to have a chance at staying in the top flight and getting a pay day. You're one of the wankers that complained when Warnock was sacked, aren't you? KOL was another, bellends the both of you. Edited by DaG, Mar 11 2013, 07:31 PM.

No, I didn't. They might as well have tried something when they came up to the division, or in the January window. They're the worst side in the league by a mile and are currently punching well above their weight, no manager can change that. |

Reading 'to appoint Di Canio as manager' Paolo Di Canio has emerged as the hot favourite to take over as Reading manager following the sacking of Brian McDermott. Di Canio, who led Swindon out of League Two in his first season in charge before leaving last month, is said to be a near-certainty to take the job in the Daily Mirror, The Times, The Sun and the Daily Express. In addition, bookmakers have installed the volatile Italian - who was once banned for 11 matches for shoving a referee to the turf - as odds-on favourite to take the reins at the Madejski Stadium. Champions League-winning manager Roberto Di Matteo has also been linked with the job, but current indications are that it is his fellow Italian who will get the nod. The Sun backs up its report with a photograph of Di Canio in the stands watching Reading's last match under McDermott, suggesting that the replacement was already lined up before Reading fired McDermott. McDermott, 51, took over as caretaker manager at the Madejski in 2009 before being named full-time boss the following year. He guided Reading back to the top flight last season for only the second time in their history but was relieved of his duties as the club look to turn around their form in time to secure Premier League survival. A club statement read: "Reading Football Club has announced today the departure of Manager Brian McDermott. Owner Anton Zingarevich wishes to place on record his thanks to Brian who had achieved great success with the club since taking over as Manager in December 2009. "Brian gained promotion to the Barclays Premier League last year for only the second time in the club’s history thanks to a remarkable run at the end of last season. However, in our current situation, owner Anton Zingarevich felt that a change was necessary. "The search for a successor will start immediately and it is hoped that a new Manager will be in place as soon as possible to lead the fight against potential relegation." It takes the number of top-flight managers to lose their jobs this season to four: Di Matteo (Chelsea), Mark Hughes (Queens Park Rangers), and Nigel Adkins (Southampton) were also sacked. With QPR showing signs of life under Hughes's replacement Harry Redknapp, Reading will have their work cut out to survive, especially as their next two matches are away to leaders Manchester United and Arsenal. They also host champions Manchester City and Liverpool before the end of the season. |

Reading have confirmed the appointment of former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins as the club's new manager. The Royals have been searching for a new boss since they sacked Brian McDermott two weeks ago, and former Southampton manager Adkins has now taken the job on a contract until the summer of 2016. Owner Anton Zingarevich said: “I am delighted to bring Nigel to our club because he is perfect for us. "He has great respect within the game, his CV speaks for itself and he has many attributes as a manager, he is progressive, he develops players, his teams play attacking, passing football but most of all he knows how to win games at all levels. "This is an appointment we have made both with the short and long term in mind and Nigel can take our club forward. I know our supporters have been keen to hear news over the past two weeks and I am certain they will join me in saying it was worth the wait. I wish Nigel and Andy nothing but good luck and now we focus on eight hugely important games in the Premier League. "Our supporters will also play a vital part in the finale to the season and I am certain Nigel will get an excellent reception from our fans at the Emirates on Saturday." The 48-year-old has been out of work since surprisingly losing his job with the Saints in January, with his sacking coming after back-to-back promotions. Reading becomes his third professional club, having started out with Scunthorpe in 2006. He stepped up to the manager's chair after serving the Iron as physiotherapist for 10 years and twice got them promoted from League One to the Championship. A number of candidates had been linked with the post - Brighton's Gus Poyet was heavily touted last week - while Eamonn Dolan has been looking after the team on a caretaker basis. The new manager inherits a side 19th in the Premier League and seven points shy of safety with eight games left. Reading travel to Arsenal on Saturday before a home game against Southampton, Adkins's old side, on April 6. Speaking for the first time since he left Southampton, he said: "I've not made any comments since I left Southampton and I want to take the opportunity to thank all the people there. "I thank the fans, the players and supporters. We were on a fantastic journey but we have to move on now. "I am pleased to be the Reading manager. We will take it one game at a time and try and keep this club in the Premier League. "It's a good club, I've been impressed with them and I've always known what sort of club it is. We're in the Premier League and we want to stay there. I am excited." WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS??? YOU SACK YOUR MANAGER IN HOPE OF AVOIDING RELEGATION THEN REPLACE HIM WITH A MAN WHO WAS SACKED FOR THE SAME REASONS GET BACK TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP FFS |

Going up next season. Scummiest club in the country but a decade away from the PL is far too long, they're needed back up. |

![]() It will not take long for Leeds fans to be singing: "Two Brian McDermotts, there are only two Brian McDermotts". The reason being, that the head coach of Super League side Leeds Rhinos is Brian McDermott, and the head coach of Leeds United football club is also - yep, you guessed it - Brian McDermott. Both are former players in their respective sports, and are now in charge of the two big teams in Leeds. The Rhinos' McDermott has been in charge since 2011, winning 59 per cent of his 27 games for the club. United's McDermott, meanwhile, was appointed to the top job on Friday afternoon following the departure of Neil Warnock, and his sacking from Premier League side Reading earlier in the season. It is, of course, just a coincidence, but the fate of sport in Leeds is now in the hands of the two Brian McDermotts. |
