I've just been chatting to a mate who told me he would boo Demba Ba when Chelsea come up to St James' in February. It got me thinking: what circumstances, if any, do you think it is acceptable for fans to boo former players for their club? Have you ever done so in the past?

Clearly this thread will be a lot more applicable to 'wee clubs' like Newcastle, City, Arsenal etc than the likes of United.

Winner.

Carlos Tevez is the only player I can think of worth booing from a United perspective. Utter cunt he was.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

I'd never begrudge a player who wants to move on, if Kompany left this Jan to go to Barca for instance I'd be so happy for him and wish him all the best, same with virtually any player at the club. They're humans and they're people who I look up to, I want them to achieve all they can in football in the same way that you'd never call your mate a cunt for leaving your place of work for a different job. I've never once booed a player who's left the club, probably never will either, unless it was extreme circumstances. Tevez received a few stern words when he returned for us against Chelsea, but again, if he left instead of returning for us I'd have wished him well.

it all depends on the circumstances of the deparuture, the reason theyre leaving, whether theyve bad mouthed the club in any way , if they are leaving for a rival , etc. id never begrudge a player who wasnt starting reguarly for leaving for first team football elsewhere. The tough ones for me are Torres and Owen, having adored them whilst at my club and them doing my club so well, to then go on and play for rival clubs. and Torres fucking us over on deadline day , i honestly dont know what id do. i dont think id boo either of them, owen cause he is shit now anyway, and my hatred for torres has kind of died down, i like him again now he is playing under rafa again. infact i dont mind chelsea at all. Players like Mascherano and Alonso id never boo. Meireles is the only wanker i can think of that i would

But why does it bother you that Torres has moved to a new club which matches his ambitions and can realistically deliver trophies? Nothing scummy about it whatsoever. If City finished third for the next three seasons I would totally support Kompany if he wanted to move to United to start winning things again.

it wasnt the fact he went chelsea , good for him, and 50 million pounds were laughing, but it was the timing of his announcement and the timing of departure that forced us into acting and panicking on deadline day which made us feel like we could splash ad waste 35 mil of that on andy carroll, if he left for 50 million pounds anytime before the last week of january he would probably still be one of my favourite players

Most of the Arsenal players do it while they're at the club then start kissing ass once they've left.
