I assume Homer thinks that the interviewer is Chelsea's foreign physio, and not someone who works for LFC TV. No other reasonable explanation to start chatting about her. |

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers aims for second place finish in Premier League Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has set his sights on second-placed Manchester City. Following their worst start to a campaign in over a century, the Reds now sit just four points behind city rivals, fourth-placed Everton, with their record over the last 11 games bettered only by the league's top two. Rodgers saw his Liverpool players criticised early in his Anfield reign and believes they should now set their sights further than just securing Champions League qualification. "They have been hammered left, right and centre by numbers of people," said the Northern Irishman. "When you are a club that is the size of Liverpool then that criticism comes. "It is well documented, which is incredible really, but when you have won the titles and championships you have before that will come your way. "You can see in their performances it hasn't affected them and, if anything, we have grown from that. "Everyone has their opinion on Liverpool and I understand that because of the standards set by this club in the 1970s and 1980s. "But for a club that has been very poor and disastrous by all accounts from other people we lie four points off top four. "For me the ambition is to grow higher. We are 11 points off second and that can all turn around very quickly so you need to get consistency - and that is what we have at the minute." Many of the players criticised - Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson, Jose Enrique and in particular Joe Cole - were signed by Rodgers' predecessors Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson. Liverpool's former director of football Damien Comolli, who helped bring most of those players to the club, has said they have all been judged too early. "I don't know what Damien said and it's none of my business," added the Reds boss, who was pleased to see Cole score in Sunday's 3-2 win at West Ham. "It was important for Joe to contribute. This season has been very difficult for him because he has been injured for the majority of it. "The responsibility has always been with the players and if Joe continues to work how he has been when he gets the opportunity he has to take it. "He works very hard at his game and when the chances come I know in his own mind he wants to take them and be effective for the team. "That is the challenge for all the players. It is a challenge for us all to improve and we want to keep rising up the table." |

THANKS to Lord Leveson’s report on the media, footballer kiss ‘n’ tells have been thinner than Victoria Beckham’s smile. But today the Sun makes a fist at one: Liverpool boss’s secret visits to love split mum Secret? Well, not that secret, not if the Sun saw him. The story is brought to readers by RUTH WARRENDER, STEPHEN MOYES and LAUREN VEEVERS. Yes, just three reporters works on this scoop. FOOTIE boss Brendan Rodgers has befriended a mum in the middle of a split from her Liverpool fan husband. So. A woman already estranged from her husband is friendly with Rodgers? The Reds manager, a dad of two, is a regular visitor to the home of 31-year-old Charlotte Hind, previously a travel co-ordinator for the Premier League club. She recently split with her husband of five years Steven, saying she wanted a divorce “as quickly as possible”. But how secret has it all been? Neighbours said married Rodgers, 40, has been parking his Porsche sports car near the £210,000 rented home Charlotte shares with her 15-month-old daughter Lola. Got that? The Sun claims one of the most recognisable faces in the north-west has been parking his smart sports car outside an ordinary home. Can it get any more secretive? Witnesses in posh Birkdale, Merseyside, said he usually stayed for around 90 minutes and had visited early in the morning and evening. Witnesses? You have witnesses to a marriage or a crime. And nice touch with the 90 minutes. Does Rodgers do everything on match time? Rodgers — who shares a mansion in Formby with wife Susan — is understood to have made at least 12 visits in the past month. We then hear from one of these “witnesses”: “I’m not sure what’s going on, but he’s been round to her house on a regular basis for the past few weeks. He parks round the corner and is pretty recognisable on Merseyside.” Yeah, the manager of Liverpool FC is “pretty recognisable on Merseyside”. Just as the Pope is pretty recognisable in the Vatican. Last night Northern Ireland-born Rodgers — previously in charge at Watford, Reading and Swansea — refused to say why he had been seeing Charlotte and denied anything improper. A spokesman for the manager said: “He is not and never has been in a relationship with Miss Hind.” Maybe he hadn’t been seeing her, and certainly not in the way the Sun implies? Approached by The Sun, Charlotte denied the boss had visited her detached home and claimed neighbours were “mistaken”. She said: “They must have got him mistaken with someone.” To which the Sun says: Salesman Steven, 31 and a Liverpool season ticket-holder, was stunned to learn of his wife’s friendship last night. And, perhaps, secretly delighted… PS – Encouraging new for the Sun. People on Merseyside are actually speaking to the paper of record and not just telling its reporters to get lost. |
