LeBoeuf and Carvalho are too similar in Cule's side, plus LeBoeuf was overrated as fuck, so error prone. Carvalho was absolutely immense, but Frank's dragging that pairing into the gutter by not complimenting Carvalho in the slightest. Don't like Torres up top either, the lad's only had two seasons in his career when he's scored at a rate of more than a goal every two games. Nobody in this draft has an excuse to not have a striker who consistently banged in more than a goal every two games.

I prefer Anelka in my team to Wright, simple as that really. And you told me I should have picked Wright AFTER I picked Anelka anyway lol

Not going to argue with LeBeouf, my key mistake in this draft was to take Makélélé as early as I did which sacrificed my chance to pick another quality CB. By the time I had such an opportunity it was a choice between the likes of LeBeouf, King, Woodgate and David Luiz. Could easily have picked someone like Carragher, Pallister or Stam at that time and picked up De Jong right at the end without sacrificing too much from my midfield.

That said, the Torres pick was fantastic. At his peak at Liverpool he was consistently destroying the best defences in Europe whilst being the best striker in the league during the Golden Age of PL football. 3 teams in the semis of the CL 06/07, 07/08, 08/09. That's what gives you a sense of how good the players of that period were. The spine of my side are all from that period: Given, Evra, Carvalho, Makélélé, Lampard and Torres and were all world class during it.

It's for other people to judge whose team is the best but some people need to take stock and realise that the 90s was an absolute joke in comparison with that period. Zola, Le Tiss, Ginola, Cantona, Anelka, Wright etc. I find it pathetic that these lads are being compared to those that consistently conquered Europe.

Winner.

As if I didn't consider him :hysterics:

Anelka worked better with Bergkamp and fits in with a more technically adept side than Wright.

Ffs come on mate you're smarter than this.

I'm fully aware it's a PL XI, I was using the European comparisons to demonstrate the relative strength of the PL at certains points in time. Eg. the fact that PL teams were the whipping boys in Europe in the 90s suggests that the league was pretty shit at the time.

Wright and Bergkamp in 96/97 and 97/98 >>> Anelka and Bergkamp in 97/98 and 98/99.

Bergkamp himself said Anelka was his favourite partner. Anyway, I don't think this issue really makes much difference. My obvious weakness in the wide areas.

Anelka more suited to a technical side than Wright? Don't agree with that, Wright was technically superior to Anelka. Anelka really improved that side of his game as he got older but he was fucking useless by then too.

He didn't. What he said was that Anelka was easiest to play with because he was more predictable than Henry/Wright.

Your attack is clearly the best as it contains the greatest player ever to have graced these shores, I think you would have been better off with someone more defensive than Gudjohnsson though. You've ended up restricting Essien a bit too much by picking an AM rather than a DM. I'm not really a fan of your midfield in general, Essien and Modric doesn't really work in a 4231. If you still wanted Eidur then Essien and Eidur would have been decent with someone like Mascherano/Gilberto holding.

Your CBs are class, who are your fullbacks?

My team has 9 European competition medals between them. Not bad really.
