Arsenal's embarrassing approach to the transfer market has left the club on the brink of fan mutiny once again

We're a little over two weeks before the start of the Premier League season, rivals have strengthened, the pick of the talent has been hoovered up by ambitious clubs. And the team beaten by Blackburn and Bradford before squeaking into the Champions League has stood still. Again.
The noises emanating from Emirates Stadium may have been all the right ones to cajole fans as their season ticket renewal forms dropped on the doormat. But, within the inner sanctum of the transfer bunker - where we know there to be at least £70million burning a hole in the floor - the sound of the famous fax machine whirring into action has been conspicuous by its absence.

There have, of course, been bids - big bids. But one by one, targets have slipped away when Arsenal were laughed out of the negotiation room. Bullied, out-muscled and outfought. In some cases, they weren't even outbid, yet still lost out.
Stevan Jovetic, flirted with, bid for, negotiated over... then watched move elsewhere. Gonzalo Higuain, the same. Wayne Rooney, Jackson Martinez, Edinson Cavani, Radamel Falcao, Robert Lewandowski are all or have all been on the market this summer. So too was Yaya Sanogo, but luring an out-of-contract, injury prone Under 20 international from the second division in France is a very different ball game.
Even Tottenham have managed to spend £50m.
So now with all else lost, the club, whose principles both in playing style and business operations are among the most pompously self-promoted in the country, have turned to football's enfant terrible: Luis Suarez.
Even then, when dealing with a player few clubs had the appetite to approach, they've created a situation in which they must now treble their previous club record. They didn't even read the small print of the contract.

But should we really be surprised? This, after all, is a regime that allowed Samir Nasri, Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie to all get into the final 18 months of their respective contracts.
As a selling club, rivals are all too aware that a firm hand is all that is required to get the better of Arsenal's negotiating team. The sale of three captains in five years at staggeringly derisory amounts is testament to that.

Thierry Henry was sold for £16m a year after a then world record bid of around £50m had been rejected. Patrick Vieira left for shy of £14m, when the previous summer the club had turned down almost twice that. And most recently Cesc Fabregas' sale for £36m may have represented a stunning profit but Barcelona know the hammer went down at below the market value.
Lessons simply haven't been learned, not even from two years ago when the Supermarket Sweep dash in the aftermath of the humiliating 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford yielded two hits and three misses.
We're told the club have been hamstrung by financial restraints attached to the new stadium. However, as Neil Ashton wrote for Sportsmail recently, the board have been chirping about significant investment for a number of years.
Every summer starts with the promises of available funds and ends with second-rate acquisitions. The change of tact this time feels like nothing more than posturing to appease fans.

'At least we tried this time, they just wouldn't sell. But I am happy with the belief in my squad,' says Arsene Wenger in early September. Probably.
Arsenal didn't win the lottery, the vast transfer fund didn't just suddenly appear overnight. So why the poor planning? Why the scattergun approach to centre forwards? Is there a good enough support network to Wenger? Or is he perhaps blind to the shortfalls in his squad having seen them go 10 unbeaten at the tail end of last season? Sadly, for Arsenal fans, it is a perfect storm of the two.
And until something, or someone, changes in the dugout or the boardroom, expect little different. And certainly don't expect Suarez.

I will write some of my feelings later tonight so stay tuned.

I dont agree with all of it, but i do agree that we should be strenghtening this summer and i see no justification as to why we haven't/won't. We've been linked with some big names that we wouldnt have been linked with in seasons previous, and we've actively chased these targets so thats a step in the right direction however it needs to amount to something. I dont beleieve Utd fans had RVP this time last summer so theres still time for great things to happen but its getting very close to the 'testing patience' mark.

Nice to see you Homer let's make it a regular thing mate.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Sadly I am not staying on here but please read the 100,000th edition of my thoughts and feelings on W£ng£r

Those who have followed me on Twitter will understand just how deeply I feel about all things Arsenal and in particular Arsene Wenger who has consumed much of my thoughts and feelings. My word the amount of things I have written about him is just incredible you could write a book out what I have said but there are no words adequate enough to describe how much I intensely hate that man. There are a lot of fucked up people in this world who have done some horrendous things but from my viewpoint I consider Wenger as one of the most disgusting and most despicable creatures that has ever walked the planet. There is nobody on this planet who I hate more. Believe me.

I have been do drained by everything that has happened this summer I genuinely thought the club would show some ambition this summer and sign one possibly two players over the 20m+ but very quickly I had this sinking feeling that this was going to be a long summer and as time went slowly by my heart started to fade. The past 8 weeks have only re-affirmed everything I have said about the dictator over the past 5+ years and the hatred I have for him intensifies with each passing day.

I intended to go to the Emirates Cup this weekend but I gave my ticket to my Uncle because I have become so angry/upset, frustrated and disillusioned with the club that I love so dearly and as I have stated many times on Twitter I am no longer going to spend any money towards the club for as long as Wenger remains in charge. I was offered the chance to go to the match against Stoke but I have already reiterated that I wouldn't even go to the NLD if offered the chance which is just simply staggering and underlines how hurt and betrayed I am with the club. You will not meet a bigger football lover than me I am absolutely obsessed with the game and live and breath it 24/7 & 365 days a year and I will always love football it will always be my greatest love but utlimately one greedy egoistic Frenchman is killing my love for the beautiful game. I have given my heart and soul for Arsenal FC for over 17 years and emotionally I given absolutely everything but I have become sick of tired of Arsenal giving the fans nothing back in return for all our love and loyalty us fans DESERVE and are ENTITLED to some happiness after years of no trophies,no big signings, losing big players, high ticket prices and much much more. The club were making all the right noises back in May/Early June stating how the club would easily afford to x amount of money on wages and transfer fees giving the Arsenal faithful optimism that finally after all these years of heartache and suffering that maybe just maybe the club were going to sign a genuine top class/world class player and show ambition for the upcoming season.
However the days and weeks soon petered out and we are not into August and Arsenal football club have spent.....wait for it........FUCK ALL! Wenger never had any intention of spending any money in this window and truly my heart and spirit have been broken by one man who has single handlely destroyed Arsenal FC over these last 5-8 years...maybe not off the pitch but on it the destruction has been there for all to see. Wenger doesn't want to spend because he is so self absorbed, egoistic, and egocentric he merely wants to be known as a genius who competes with no money and play the sympathy vote. This is someone who puts his socialist values above the clubs interest but is it is hardly surprising give the fact that we are dealing with an ignorant, delusional, self righteous narcissist. Do not think for one minute that he gives a shit about the fans because he could not care less what we think about him but if I ever had that opportunity to tell him exactly what I think about him I would not hold back and nor would I be able to contain myself. Wenger has become stale, predictable, tiresome and ever increasingly more senile as the seasons drag on he hasn't got a fucking clue what it takes to succeed in the modern era and believe me I would nothing more than for him to take on a big job like PSG or Real Madrid because he would be found out big time. I had a job interview last week for something that would have meant to myself earning over 18k a year plus bonuses and I was like "It's not so bad" and then it occured to me that a man like AW earns that in less than a day. Disgusting. People look at Wenger staying at Arsenal as a sign of love and loyalty but for me that is completely inaccurate as he has exactly what he wants a huge salary, comfort, long term security and no pressure. That’s why he has no urgency, no hunger, no real ambition and absolutely no desire to succeed and I have stated many many times...those who support/love Wenger are not true Arsenal fans and obviously do not love the club very much.
Arsene Wenger is a cancer that is slowly killing Arsenal and he needs to be removed before the damage is permanent and irretrievable. My intention is to use the social media sites to influence and use my ideology to sway people and make them see that our manager is a completely immoral person with no respect or decency for the club or the fans. This is a man who portrays himself as some kind of mythical Robin Hood figure even though he is the most corrupt thieving bastard that has ever walked on the face of the earth. It sickens me to the core that this loser can earn over 7m a year for being completely useless football manager we are dealing with a pathological liar who puts a positive spin on everything and time and time and time again he gets away with it just because he is Arsene Wenger. I was watching a program on ITV last night called the Conman and I was thinking to myself the biggest fraud of them all lives in North London and is reported to have a French accent.

Our board members are silly old codgers who haven't got the first clue about football(a bit like our manager then) which is why our club needs a complete make over from top to bottom. I would love to have the likes of Keown, Vieira and others on board but ultimately my only focus at the moment is on the manager and I am watching him like a hawk. This has been the most disgusting transfer window in the clubs entire history and I truly sense that the tide is turning against Wenger more than ever as even the most hardened Wenger supporters cannot defend him after this. Sadly it must be said that there are many Arsenal fans who will support Wenger till the death and I just accept that these people are inferior simpletons who lack the brain capacity to learn from negative experiences. I never truly realised what turds most Arsenal fans were until I joined Twitter and overall Twitter is a dark place with many manipulative people who prey on the weak in order to gain followers. Anyhow there are a vast number of people who like myself have had enough and want change and I want to be apart of the crew who make their voice heard.

I can tolerate and live with the fact that we have not won anything for 8 seasons but what I cannot tolerate is the fact that the club does not even try and succeed. I would happily go another 5 years without a trophy providing the club had strong ambition and did everything they could to bring smile on the fans faces. While many fans were crying out for names like Rooney, Suarez, Cavani and whoever else I would have been buzzing if we had signed a player like Higuain and/or Fellaini....

I am already resigned to the fact that we will not spend any of our 100 million warchest which is why for the next 4-5 weeks I am going to make myself heard louder than ever before. I am going to fight and fight hard and if that means going to London just to protest or show my disapproval at the manager then I am willing to do it. Most of the time I am a decent guy but when I am angry I become an ice cold killer a true hardcore warrior who is ready to take on the world I am as driven as they come and nobody will stand in my way.

If at the end of the day nothing comes to fruition and Arsene Wenger signs a new contract then I swear that I am done with Arsenal for good (Until Wenger leaves). A new contract for Wenger would be the equivalent of a death warrant for Arsenal. All my faith, hope and belief in the club will be forever gone. This summer could well be the final straw for me.

The moment Wenger leaves will be one of the greatest moments of my life I would literally cry for hours and party for days and the moment that happens Arsenal will be back and I will be waiting.

P.S Do not buy any tickets, memorabilia, shirts and anything Arsenal related.

I will always hate you Wenger.

Some fair frustrations mate, I am a keen believer in all things Wenger but I do feel that he will need to justify himself should out transfers not materialise this summer. I think that it's easy to point the finger solely at Wenger, however there are no longer any financial restrictions to hide behind and we should now be competing for the best players in world football and the lack of this so far defo needs to be addressed.

For me Wenger is still the man, but he needs to spend some cash.

I feel where you're coming from Homer. I just try my best to avoid reading any interviews or articles regarding transfers during the window, as i'm not into that masochistic shit like most Arsenal fans on here. You should give it a go too, just shut yourself off to all the cringy rumours, and focus your attention on what happens on the pitch, not the old deep pocketed streak of piss standing on the side of it.
