1. After all the pre-match diplomatic work to ensure Manchester United didn’t burst into their ‘Always the victims, it’s never your fault’ chant, perhaps Jonjo Shelvey shouldn’t have followed his two-footed lunge by pointing at Sir Alex Ferguson and saying: “That’s your fault!”

2. Apparently, Liverpool youngster Suso’s match stats show a 100 per cent pass completion rate. Unfortunately, one of his 22 passes was the ultimate hospital ball: putting Daniel Agger out for the season and leading to United’s winner.

3. Robin Van Power is more effective than Robin Van Panenka.

4. The pace of the Premier League is sometimes too much to ask of our middle-aged referees. As is the physicality.

5. Gervinho is more unpredictable than betting on the outcome of a Buckaroo match between Faustino Asprilla and Paulo Wanchope.

6. Swansea’s Nathan Dyer is usually the shortest player on the pitch, so he decided to freshen things up against Everton by being the player on the pitch for the shortest time.

7. Southampton’s goal difference was returned to some sort of respectability with the help of a very obliging Aston Villa.

8. For someone who scored incredible goals last season, Papiss Cisse takes penalties like an Englishman.

9. And for someone who’s been signed by Harry Redknapp about a gazillion times, Jermain Defoe is certainly benefiting from ‘Arry’s departure. He was again pivotal for Spurs as they secured AVB’s first home win.

10. Both goals in the Manchester City vs Arsenal game came from set-pieces. Meanwhile, Stoke were complaining about rough treatment and tough tackling away from home. It’s a funny old league
