Must win game against Chelsea next weekend really. I don't think we'll pick up as many points from the bottom 12 as the other teams in the top 4 so we need to be winning these games if we're to make a proper challenge for the title |

Do you actually read anything I say? ........nah I thought not That post was about my disappointment with the board and how we didn't sign a striker at the end of the window and admittely I was and to a certain degree still am concerned about not having a real natural goalscorer at the club hence why I am desperate for Wenger to bring in Demba Ba during the winter window. I certainly wouldn't say that at all DAG one thing I am not and that is fickle! I actually maintained in that post that we will finish in the top 4 regardless of what else happens Edited by Homer, Sep 24 2012, 01:27 AM.

Whether the improvement to Arsenal's defence is in fact down to Steve Bould is unclear. It's certainly the easiest conclusion to reach - a former club stalwart and central defender arrives, suddenly their defence tightens up. Bingo - let's all go home and anoint the miracle-worker. However, those at the club have been rather quick to deny that the big man has lolloped in and sprinkled some sort of defensive magical fairy dust, possibly out of some sort of loyalty to Pat Rice, but possibly just because they happen to be defending better this year and Bould hasn't had that much of an impact after all. What does everyone think Bould has done in such a short time? Hypnotised the back four and turned them into Arrigo Sacchi's AC Milan? Kidnapped their puppies and threateningly waved a sack near a barrel full of water? Said he'd give them a really painful Chinese burn if they didn't cut out careless defensive errors? Three months working with Bould, for example, doesn't necessarily explain the improvement in Carl Jenkinson. Before the season I suggested that, more than the impending departure of Robin van Persie and Alex Song, the most worrying thing for Arsenal fans was the prospect of Jenkinson starting the season as their right-back. How wrong I have been proved so far. The young defender looks everything he didn't last season - strong, determined and perhaps most importantly he has lost the tentative, scared deer look that made wingers all over the land look forward to an afternoon at the Emirates. Indeed, if he carries on like this then Arsene Wenger will be faced with quite a head-scratcher when Bacary Sagna returns to fitness. Of course, if it is all Bould's doing, then mazel tov, congratulations and well done - you truly are a magician, my good man. It shouldn't really matter to your average Gooner. What should matter is that things are looking up for Arsenal. They don't look like a soft touch these days - indeed, they haven't looked a soft touch for a while now. Last season they picked up a whopping 24 points from losing positions, with the next best in the Premier League collecting just 15. Sure, it might be slightly concerning that they went behind so many times in the first place, but at least there's some backbone there. There are things wrong with this Arsenal side, not least that (so far this season, anyway), they haven't quite shaken the habit of dominating possession (they had 59% of the ball at Eastlands), looking threatening but not quite turning that into goals. Much of that was down to Gervinho, who on days like this dukes it out with Theo Walcott for the title of 'Most Frustrating Footballer In All The Land'. Still, if the defence is tightening, they're keeping the ball and creating chances, then goals will come. They're unbeaten this season, have conceded just twice and have picked up four points from two of the toughest away trips in the Premier League. Reasons to be cheerful, eh Gooners? |
