QPR manager Mark Hughes has given Park Ji-Sung the club's vacant armband on his debut for the Londoners in 5-0 friendly victory over Sabah Select XI in Malaysia.

The South Korean midfielder, who joined QPR a fortnight ago after seven years at Manchester United, started for the first time in Rangers colours in the match in Kota Kinabalu.

Hughes, who is without an official skipper after stripping Joey Barton of the role, opted to give Park the armband although he explained he is yet to make a decision on who'll get the job full time.

"I thought I would give Ji the captaincy as he is very well known in these parts so I thought it would be a nice gesture for him to be captain for the game," Hughes told the club's website.

"I haven't made a decision on the captaincy yet but I thought it was important that he was the captain tonight."

Hughes also added he was happy with Park's maiden performance where he only played for the opening 45 minutes.

"It was the first time he played with his new team-mates and I thought he did fine," Hughes said. "Everyone knows the quality that he has. I will benefit from that and the team will benefit.

"We are very happy that he is with us. He is a world class player and he will make us better."

QPR striker Djibril Cisse says the addition of Park Ji-Sung to the Rangers squad is a "massive" boost to the club.

“Ji is a massive player,” Cissé told QPR’s website. “He will be huge for us. He’s got a lot of experience having played for a couple of big, big clubs. He’s what we needed – quality, experience, a winning-mentality."

Cisse also said Park's arrival would be a boost for the club's profile worldwide.

“Ji-Sung is a big, big, big star in Asia, so it is great for the club to promote the brand in this area of the world as well,” he said.

Nah, great signing for QPR if it goes through, they are in need of a defender or 2; especially after the performance at the weekend.

Even if he plays a handful of games it will be an improvement on their part.

QPR HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

QPR agree Carvalho deal

Sky Sports sources understand that Queens Park Rangers have agreed a deal in principle to sign Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho on a season-long loan.

The 34-year-old has fallen out of favour at Primera Liga champions Real and will be allowed to move on in search of regular football.

Carvalho was omitted from the Real squad which toured the United States this summer, sparking speculation that he could be on his way out of the club.

A return to England, where he has previously taken in a successful spell with Chelsea, was quickly mooted.

Experience

Tottenham were said to be keen on the experienced centre-half, who won three Premier League titles during a six-year stint at Stamford Bridge.

It is, however, QPR who have leapt to the front of the queue in the battle to bring Carvalho back to London.
