Anyway, Wilshere is clearly better than him in every respect.

I think the two are a great pairing, but for me Arteta and Wilshere are the two that are more comparable, and Song with M'Villa (if we were to sign him). I think we need one of each.

But back on the point about Song and his crazy passes, don't get me wrong, I scream at him when he floats them to nobody, but if he didn't try those passes, we wouldn't have anywhere near the same amount of points.

His assist ratio demolishes Wilshere's, he makes more tackles and wins more aerial battles. His all-round game makes him a nailed on starter. Wilshere would have to displace the equally impressive Arteta for me, because I really don't see him as an attacking midfielder.

But if he was able to make that step up, we would have some midfield.

Isn't it more likely that Arteta, Wilshere & Song will be our starting 3 midfielders next season.

That makes sense if you ignore the fact that none of them are attacking midfielders. Our wingers are already incompetent, the last thing we need is three deep lying play makers.

You don't really need an attacking midfielder if the three midfielders can all play fluidly and all have individual attacking assets like those three do. Song bursts up the field often enough, as does Wilshere, so I think a fluid system would work well enough.

I agree it is a very good midfield, one of the best in the League. And I am all for fluid interchanging in forward/midfield positions, but I think we would desperately lack that one player with the ability to change a game with a few quick passes without Rosicky.

Unless one of them steps up in a big way in terms of incisive play, we would come unstuck in quite a lot of games where the opposition is defensively sound and sitting on the edge of the box.

This is worsened by the shoddy build up play Walcott and AOC have, and Gervinho's complete inconsistency.

How is Wilshere not an attacking midfielder? Just because he played deep last season doesn't mean that's the only position he has the skill set for. He's clearly got all the attributes to play in an advanced role and as he gets older he'll be scoring and assisting like crazy.

Guarantee he will. 10-15 goals a season and 15-20 assists.

Yes we will. For me he's our best player, and he's not wet like Rambo so a year out won't phase him, he'll just be even hungrier.

Wilshere was a #10 all throughout his time in the academy and he scored goals consistently. That will come back to him at some stage, but I prefer him box to box right now.

AntMcfc Exclusive - "No Arteta?!". Clayton urges Green to drop Song.
Actually, it's Wilshere who would be dropped from that team. He is basically a lesser version of Arteta (who is the first midfielder on the team sheet).

Wilshere's short passing is just as good as Arteta's if not better, he has a bigger passing range and more potential to play the final ball. He's stronger, quicker, and can drive past people in midfield. He's also got more talent to influence things in the final third. The only area where Arteta beats Wilshere is in defensive ability.

No reason both can't play together though, and most Arsenal fans will agree they should. If we don't make any signings I think we should try the Juventus set up in midfield, but that would require Song being dropped which would make most Arsenal fans' heads explode.
