5 – Everton have won 5 consecutive games for the first time since 2002. Roberto MartÃnez’s side are fifth in the league, 4 points behind Arsenal who they host on Sunday. The Toffees only went on such a streak once during David Moyes’ 11 years at Goodison Park, winning six in a row. 65 – Everton have 7 games remaining to pick up 6 points that would set a club record for most points in a single season. Currently on 60 points, they are racing down on the total of 65 set in 2007-08. Last season they picked up 63 points. |

Things were really difficult for Moyes' first 7 or 8 years at Everton tbf, pretty sure they were out-spent by nearly every side in the league at the time. Very different club now after Moyes managed to steer them through that bad spell, much more potential to be competitive. |

Give Martinez 10 years at Goodison Park and I doubt he'll achieve any more top 4 finishes than David Moyes. He won't be there that long because hes a top manager and bigger clubs will come sniffing. This season United have dropped off and Arsenal have had a blip but remain favorites for 4th. This could be Everton's best chance for 4th for the foreseeable future. I'm preparing for the shit posts but I feel the question should be asked; if Everton finish 5th will they really have made that much progress? |

That was a confusing post. Souunds like youre criticising him for Everton not making progress but are saying he will get out of everton to a bigger club much quicker than Moyes did cause hes a top manager |

I guess my complaint is that people are saying how much he has improved Everton but in my opinion he has just found another way of finishing 5th. It's not a criticism of him, more the general media and Evertonian fan's hype around what he has brought to the club. Not necessarily better than Moyes, just different. That depends on how many points he gets. If he gets a points total than in most seasons would get him 4th surely he should receive more praise than Moyes who failed to reach such a total? He's found a new way of finishing 5th. You're right he has, by getting more points than usual because Spurs and Man United could easily reach a points total Moyes never did with Everton. |

Still relative to the rest of the teams, his Everton side are 5th best. I find it hard to compare points season to season because every season is different. He may have moved ahead of Spurs and United, but his side has also been overtaken by Liverpool. |

His side has been overtaken by Liverpool? Lol are you drunk ? were top. Are you implying David Moyes would be top of the PL and not have allowed us to overtake them? All you have to do is look at what David Moyes and Martinez have done with this respective clubs this season, for Martinez to bring a whole new philosophy to a club and get immediate results and probably break a points record is a bigger achievement than any of moyes' 10 single trophyless seasons at everton. Moyes barely took the club forward at all in his last 8 seasons. Played the same shit direct football the whole time too |

Everton finished 6th last season, 7th the two seasons before that, 8th the season before that. They've not finished 4th in 4 years and the new points total will be a record points total. Clear improvement. |

http://www.eplmatches.com/tables/english-premier-league/epl-table-2001%E2%80%9302/ that was the league table at the end of the premier league season which Moyes starting managing Everton on March 14th. Barely took the club forward? I think you're a good poster mate, but thats just biased bullshit Edit - ah yeah you said 8 years, my apologies Edited by midfieldcarousel, Apr 4 2014, 09:47 PM.

And people always said Moyes had hardly any money, Martinez barely had any money last summer and had a better transfer window at his first attempt than Moyes did in 10 years |
