Sky Sports sources understand Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg have agreed a loan deal for Andrey Arshavin.

The 30-year-old Russia international has struggled for form this season, leading to speculation his days at the North London club could be numbered.

No transfer emerged during the January window but, with Gervinho back from Africa Cup of Nations duty and the Russian transfer window still open until Friday, a deal has now been agreed.

The move will see Arshavin return to his homeland and the club from which he joined Arsenal in January 2009.

   WTF YOU DOING WENGER????? WHAT USE IS A LOAN DEAL TO US ALL IT MEANS IS WE LOSE ONE OF OUT MOST CREATIVE PLAYERS AT A PERIOD WHEN WE MOST NEED HIM. THERE GOES OUR CL HOPES DOWN THE DRAIN :oi: :oi:

You're joking right? Arshavin barely plays at all, and now that Gervinho is back that's 3 wide players ahead of him in the pecking order. I'd have kept him at the club until summer, but getting rid now won't affect us unless we get tons of injuries in which case we'd be fucked anyway.

Overall I'm happy because this means he'll never wear an Arsenal shirt again.

We're one injury away from having no wide players on the bench

Andrey Arshavin has sealed a loan move back to former club Zenit St Petersburg on the Russian transfer window's deadline day.

The Russian international, 30, has spent most of the current campaign out of form at the Emirates Stadium, drawing the ire of many Arsenal supporters.

And Arshavin confirmed the switch on his official Twitter page @AndrArshavin23, saying: "It's done."

Shortly afterwards the Russian added on his personal website: "I've moved to "Zenit". On loan, will play under number 29. All the details tomorrow, when you wake up."

It's a really pointless decision. Doesn't benefit Arsenal in any way.

i'm sure they'll be getting a couple of million for a 6 month loan for a player who rarely plays. good deal.

You do have a point, financial gain is definitely more important than winning football matches at AFC.

Arshavin doesn't help us win matches lol, he's made 3 meaningful contributions this season, and on two of them the ball simply came to him through sheer luck. We'll get a million from the loan, a few million from his sale in the summer, and most importantly his 80K off the books.

Arshavin was part of the squad, and a good squad is required in the modern game.

Wenger generally relies on one winger from the bench to come on and change the game. That is now Chamberlain, who is much better than Arshavin.
