Allan McGregor, Steven Davis, Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ness have joined the Ibrox exodus after declining to transfer their contracts to Charles Green's newco Rangers.

They joined Steven Naismith, Steven Whittaker, Sone Aluko and Rhys McCabe, who registered their objections before the start of this week.

A statement from lawyer Margaret Gribbon of Bridge Litigation read: "Allan McGregor, Steven Davis, Jamie Ness and Kyle Lafferty have instructed PFA lawyers' Bridge Litigation UK to object to their transfer to the Rangers' newco."

Lee Wallace earlier pledged his future to the newco club, which is almost certain to start life outside the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. But Wallace and Lee McCulloch are the only two players to have committed themselves publicly to staying at Ibrox and Green now faces the prospect of more players walking away, possibly without compensation.

The law firm's statement added: "The union's lawyers are already instructed in this matter for Rhys McCabe and Sone Aluko. Bridge Litigation UK has confirmed that letters of objection have been sent to the club along with requests to the SFA to release the players' registrations.

"Bridge Litigation UK have shared with the players the contents of legal guidance issued by the SFA last week on the issue of TUPE and player registration and which they state supports their legal view that an objection under TUPE amounts to a lawful termination of contract giving the club no entitlement to a claim for compensation."

Clyde have joined the ranks of the Scottish Football League clubs who oppose the plan to put the Rangers newco in the First Division.

The Third Division side are questioning the new reconstruction proposals, which include a merger of the two league bodies and a one-off £1m payment from the SPL to buy the First Division television rights as well as accommodating Charles Green's newco in the second tier.

Clyde think it would help Rangers' image to start from the bottom again and try to fight their way back to the top of the Scottish game.

A statement read: "The Clyde board believe that any proposals for change should not be rushed, as these have been.

"They also have to be done by consensus and not through threat or inducement, again, as these have been.

"The papers include a proposal to allow a newco to enter the First Division. This is contrary to the rules of the SFL and nothing within the papers justifies this proposal.

"Rebuilding from the bottom can restore the dignity stripped from the club by its former owners.

"If things are as bad as indicated then Scottish football is in a far worse state than is being acknowledged."

The 12 SPL clubs will vote on Rangers' future on Wednesday and they are not expected to secure enough votes to remain in the top flight.

Payment issues

Whether they would then be placed in the First Division or Third Division remains to be seen, and a large number of Rangers fans have yet to renew their season tickets due to the uncertainty.

The supporters have now been told they will not be able to buy season tickets via direct debit.

Some fans who cancelled their season tickets this week reported that new direct debit instructions had been created in their accounts.

The Sevco group that bought the assets and business of Rangers said in response that direct debit instructions had automatically been set up for all those who paid the original company that way but no payment would be taken from those who had cancelled.

However, the new company have now stated they had shelved all plans to take season-ticket money that way.

In a statement on Rangers' official website, finance director Brian Stockbridge said: "All direct debits would have been paid to the new company from July 6 and all season ticket funds are to be used solely for the benefit of the club and its supporters.

"However, it is clear from feedback from supporters that there remains some concern about the transfer of direct debit instructions from the old company to the new company.

"The uncertainty resulted in some misleading media coverage which only added to the confusion and caused issues for service providers.

"For the sake of clarity and to give reassurance to fans, the club will not take any direct debit payments for the forthcoming season.

"We are working with our bank, Metro Bank, to ensure those who wanted to pay by instalment are still able to do so."

SPL clubs vote overwhelmingly to reject Rangers' application to play in the SPL next season. They'll start in Div 1 or Div 3 now.

Winner.

Raith Rovers vice-chairman Turnbull Hutton has described the Scottish Premier League as “dead as a parrot” as the top flight clubs prepare to vote on Rangers' potential admission to the First Division.

Rangers newco are currently waiting to hear the outcome as the Scottish Football League decide on Thursday whether to place them in the First Division after their application to re-join the SPL was overwhelmingly rejected by its current members.

And Hutton, who is one of the more outspoken directors in Scottish football, has called for the top flight to be completely re-structured in light of the Gers’ SPL admission rejection.

Hutton told reporters: "In essence, the SPL is like a dead parrot. It’s financially unsustainable.

"It’s hardly up to the First Division to sustain that. There could maybe be recognition from the top that accepts the SPL is dead, so let’s wind it up.

"It hasn’t worked for the past 14 years, it has been a failure. It’s all gone belly-up. Let’s start again."

Raith are one of a number of clubs that are against Rangers' admission to the First Division, and Hutton believes that many Scottish Football League clubs are being bullied into allowing the Glasgow giants into the league.

He added: "We are being bullied and railroaded. We are being lied to by the Scottish FA and SPL.

"It was a ridiculous document which came out last week whereby the threat was there that if you don’t vote for an acceptance into the First Division, a breakaway SPL2 will come along.

"Those who didn’t vote wouldn’t be invited. What kind of game are we running here? It is corrupt."
