There is a lack of striking talent in the premiership? or just in the game of football in general? There was a time when a list of the top 10 players in the world would mainly consist of strikers now probably midfielders.. normally there would be a number of players battling it out at this stage of the season for the golden boot, but only Tevez and Berbatov have scored over 11 goals

A few factors have lead to the appeared decline of the Premier League striker. It doesn't help that most teams only play with one striker these days, back when every team was playing 442 you'd have two main strikers scoring all the goals for the side, these days most teams line up with 541/433 or 4231, in these formations the goals are generally spread around the side a lot more, the most attacking of the three midfielders will be expected to get 10 a season and the widemen are expected to score more than 442 wingers.

The increased quality of the Premier League as a whole will have slowed down certain goal tallies too, no longer can top marksmen expect to go to bottom of the league and pick up a hattrick, they've got to work hard for every goal they score these days. A lot of the low scoring is of course down to coincidence though, every now and then you do get a season where not many goals go in, Anelka was the PL top scorer with 19 goals a few years ago, a year later Rooney, Drogba and Tevez all hit 25+, it just happens in football, some players pick up lengthy injuries, some may be tired from international tournaments, others not so. Next season I expect a few players to hit 20+.

Winner.

It doesn't change the validity of Phil's statement, but it questions the point he is trying to make in his first post.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Yes but I'm not discussing individuals here I'm talking about in general the state of strikers, a good goalscorer has periods of injury every season yet there is still normally more strikers up there battling it out to make up for it
