If you are interested about the extent to which coaches prepare for a game (incredibly detailed in this case), here's a leaked scouting report from André Villas Boas (coaching at Chelsea in '05)

Villas Boas will be at Real Madrid next year. Wouldn't mind him at City if Mancini goes. Top manager.

Meh, really expected more. This is the very top level of the game and there doesn't seem to be an overwhelming amount of detail. I could easily come up with something like this for Arsenal if I had the time and dedication.

Look at all this wankage now compared to when I mentioned him as a Roy replacement. Ye didn't even know who he was. You're welcome lads.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

Just done my research on him and this guy is pretty insane. He'd only managed for 23 league games before getting the Porto job! According to Marcotti he gave every Chelsea player a personalised DVD before the game outlining their direct opponent for the game. Speaks English perfectly as well, though I'd like to see how well he does with them in the CL next year before he gets a move, this Porto side could be pretty special.

Meh, Messi doesn't watch tape of his opponents. Too good for that bollocks.

Pointless comment but yeah, I wonder how much scouting Barcelona actually do before games, considering we play exactly the same style and attack the same areas game after game.

How can you expect more when thick asses like John Terry would cry at the sight of such intricate detail. Nah considering there's probably two games a week at this stage of the season and he has to watch a large amount of Newcastle's previous games to map out such a plan, plus he has other coaching duties, I'd say that's a mighty good effort.

Barca will do alot of studying of the opposition, I guarantee. For example they will look at out exactly how the opposition transitions from defence to attack and work out the best way of pressing them and forcing them into the passes they want them to make, and then intercepting them. They clearly don't have the attitude of "oh we're the best so we don't need to take any notice of the opposition", as that's when you'll come unstuck. They do everything diligently and that's why they're such a machine.

I hope and expect you're right, though we certainly don't do marking from set pieces diligently. :(
