GK - Edwin van der Sar: The Dutchman has maintained his ever-reliable demeanor, playing so solidly that you rarely notice just how good he is. Yesterday, he kept United in the game with a string of excellent saves to match his consistently assured command of the box. Still, that mistake against West Brom was fucking disgusting, so let's just hope that'll be the last this season.

RB - Bacary Sagna: Sagna has always been immense at the back; his strength, positional awareness and pace naturally make him a formidable opponent for any winger. But this season he's improved massively going forward. Overlapping and linking up brilliantly with Samir Nasri (when he's played on the right), he's provided a number of key assists and has even got in amongst the goals.

CB - Vincent Kompany: City under Mancini have been all about defence, and while they are still sorely lacking in creativity and ideas up front it can safely be said that the Blue half of Manchester has perfected the defensive side of the game. And no one player epitomises this solidity than Kompany. Positionally excellent, incredibly powerful and strong in the air, a quality reader of the game and an underrated ball-carrier, the Belgian could legitimately stake a claim for being among the top 3 or 4 centre-backs in world football. Particular highlights came in City's 1-0 victory over Chelsea last September, and in the stalemate against United at Eastlands.

CB - Nemanja Vidic: Vidic is the best centre-back in the world. Nothing more needs to be said here.

LB - Ashley Cole: Despite his recent troubles, Cole has been firing on all cylinders this season. His standard combination of defensive savvy and absolute brilliance going forward has continued, though you get the impression that had Patrice Evra been on his game this year Cole's horrendous mistake against Sunderland and the general lethargy of Chelsea's campaign may have counted more tellingly against him.

CM - Nigel de Jong: While Kompany is undoubtedly the key man in the City defence, you can't underestimate the role played by de Jong. He may get slated in the press for his seemingly vicious approach to commanding the midfield, but command it he certainly does and there are few DMs better in world football. He's been everything you'd want from a Premiership defensive mid this season (and last); an excellent reader of the game, a very strong tackler, a brilliant interceptor and a player who never gives the ball away cheaply in the central regions.

CM - Jack Wilshere: The Wilshere bandwagon is starting to really piss me off, and no doubt it won't be long until Rupert Murdoch's empire starts lauding him as the best player in the world or whatever, as is the way with any "flair" player from these shores. But the praise is, for the most part due. He's grown in stature in that deep-lying position in the Arsenal midfield, a position which I hadn't predicted would be his best at the start of the season. But stocky build and dynamism has enabled him to dominate more aggressive midfields, and his intelligence in knowing when to keep it simple or when to change the pace of the game have impressed. Particularly with the latter two points, it's been his world class capacity to carry the ball at pace with close control and his excellent passing that's been crucial - even if he doesn't split defences as Cesc Fabregas or Paul Scholesy might.

RW - Luis Nani: Nani has been United's most important attacking player this season. Forget Berbatov and Hernandez, it's always been Nani who's provided the creative spark up the top end of the pitch. His finishing and final ball have improved so, so much since the start of last season, and we can now rely on him not to lose the bloody ball every time he receives it out wide. Luckily, United have Valencia on his way back to mete the damage that losing Nani for the next month could have done.

AM - David Silva: It says more about the Premiership's lack of brilliant (or at least "on-song", in the case of Fabregas) AMs than about Silva's stature in world football that City's #21 finds himself in this side. Rafael van der Vaart can count himself unfortunate not to have been included in this list, but his recent struggles with injury and suspension and the more general waning of his incredible early form have seen him drop slightly in the pecking order. Still, Silva's return of 5 goals and 10 assists from 37 appearances is not to be sniffed at. His slickness in possession has been remarkable, even if his style of football is as little suited to the English league as Mascherano's is to La Liga.

LW - Samir Nasri: Again, another Arsenal player who's excellent form has been unjustly wanked into high heaven by the British press (and by the Premier League's "Player of the Month" panel). He's not fucking world class, and he's yet to perform brilliantly in a big game, but my word has he been impressive against some of the smaller sides. The addition of goals to his game this season seems to have come from a more general confidence increase, perhaps as a result of his exclusion from France's horror campaign last June and the restful summer that no-doubt followed. His quick feet and creativity have been key to Arsenal's league success this year, and he'll be featuring highly if the Gunners are to finally collect some silverware come May.

CF - Robin van Persie: Yeah, it was only a cameo string of performances, and we all knew it would end all too soon with another wet little injury, but van Persie's blistering form between January and early March of 2011 was better than anything Drogba, Tevez, Rooney or Torres have produced in the last year. With him, Arsenal looked like they could mount a challenge on all four fronts, but without him their challenge collapsed in typically soaking-wet over 2 weeks. You just get the feeling that it was never meant to be with van Persie. If things were different I genuinely believe we'd be talking about one of the best strikers of our generation in a few years time.

I forgot Silva :hysterics:

RVP should be nowhere near this list. Berbatov and Tevez deserve it much more.

Yeah, Parker and Adam should probably both be there. Holden's been excellent this season though.

Vidic has to be the front-runner at the moment, though when was the last time a defender won POTY?

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart
