Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with a number of strikers in recent weeks, and now the Premier League duo are allegedly focusing their efforts upon the signings of stars from the Bundesliga.

According to Caughtoffside, Manchester United are mulling over a Premier League record bid of €40 million for Wolfsburg star Edin Dzeko. The 24-year-old is widely regarded as the best striker in Germany, and has scored 55 goals in 76 league appearances since 2008.

Also, Liverpool are allegedly considering a €15m offer to Stuttgart for striker Pavel Pogrebnyak. The 26-year old has never fully reached his potential, but is regarded as a "sleeping giant" in his native Russia. Liverpool were previously linked with a €25m offer for Germany international Mario Gomez, but given the club's insecure financial standing, Pogrebnyak may be their only attainable transfer.

United and Liverpool are likely to face resistance in their attempts to sign the Bundesliga pair. Dzeko has a number of potential suitors in Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Milan and Juventus, and has previously expressed his preference of playing in Serie A rather than the Premier League. As well, Stuttgart, who are struggling domestically, will be keen to keep Pogrebnyak in their ranks as they face a potential relegation battle.

Lol the price for Dzeko is a little crazy. I can't see it happening tbh. I've not seen too much of Pogrebnyak, good signing if it happens?

Dzeko and Rooney wouldn't work together IMO. Dzeko is off to Italy anyway.

Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko has become irritated with reports linking him with an exit.

Rumours in Italy claimed he had signed a pre-agreement with Juventus, while reports in England and Germany continue to paint a different picture over his future.

However, there is only one script that accurately reflects his plans, and it's one that speaks of a solid future with Wolfsburg.

"Stop with these market voices," Dzeko is quoted as saying by Tuttochampions.it.

"I have not signed any agreement with Juventus, Bayern Munich or clubs in England.

"I am a Wolfsburg player and I am contracted there until 2013."

Agree that Dzeko and Rooney wouldn't work too well together. I like Dzeko, he's a very good striker, poses an incredible threat in the air but with Rooney being our #1 striker, it just doesn't seem like a viable option, especially at that price, which is a little bit crazy.

I think we need to give a little bit more time to the youngsters at the club. Wait until some make the step up and get rid of the muck left in the squad. I'd love to see us buy a top midfielder but we should stick with what we've got up front and on the wings for a while.

Dzeko is a top striker! I definitely would love him, but we already have boys to cover that job. Like I've always said, scoring is never the problem for us.

Rooney is a cunt, but I still think that he's a top player.

Better than Dzeko.

Yeah...He's above Dzeko's level...So you're right, no where near Dzeko's level.
