Nedved didn't have a vowel at the end of his name so he had to earn our respect the proper way.
Very funny, but then the reality emerged, Sidney Govou...

Totally disagree Moe. Players in Italy at the time were rated higher then the ones over here because it was just a better division with better players. A lot of the Italian players at the time were overrated because they were sort of known with the club, in the same way Rooney & Gerrard have gotten globally overrated since England have started dominating Europe. Nedved was quite underrated because of the reasons you've stated, he came from a lesser country so he had to earnit the hard way. He was rated highly because he always played well, he performed on every single stage, he was probably the best player at Euro 2004, he dominated the CL in 2003 with brilliant performance after brilliant performance, and it was telling just how much Juventus missed him in the final, and he played a key role in numerous league wins.

that is partially my point.

there is no doubt as a league the PL was way behind, as evidenced by our success (or lack of it) the the CL. but in an era where european football access was limited, it lead to massive generalisations. there is no doubt that very good players like del piero are rated a lot more highly because of this.

today our league has just as much quality as any other and imo we are able to make a more accurate assessment of players and a teams ability.

btw i dont know much about nedved, too young to have a keen interest in other leagues that didnt contain my beloved united. he just seemed to be one of those players boosted by our ignorance.

Very good point Moe, but really at the time of Nedveds beak English football had just about caught up with the rest, still not as good as the other 2 leagues but not far behind at all. If you were talking about players from the mid to late 90's i would've agreed

You have to remember this is the man that replaced Zidane, and he was still loved by the Juve fans.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

I remember pretending to be Nedved in the backyard and the special feeling you got wen pretending to be certain players and I also remember his Powerpod. Unfortunately for Wrighty he did not have a football upbringing.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

It has to be taken into account that he replaced one of the best footballers ever when discussing if he was overated or not.
