When it mattered the most, Messi couldn't destroy Inter...
neither could xavi or iniesta

@ant other than inter last season (and maybe even chelsea) messi has handed in top performances against every team he has played against.

The world cup should have little baring on the winner. It's only 7 games and tbh most were at a poor standard. Messi has destroyed some the best defences in the world on a regular basis. He has out performed everyone and scored 46 goals in one season lmao how can he not be the best player of 2010?
47 and has 12 in 11 games this season. He is comfortably the best player of 2010.

Don't matter...The two won the league with Barca and the two have World Cup medals..

Messi should be the winner. If his form in 2008/09 was good enough to win it then last season's performances should be more than enough to land the award this time.

His Barca teammates and Sniejder because of his great season at Inter and good World Cup are really his only competition.

I agree that the World Cup shouldn't have too much of a bearing. There's an awful lot of football played over the course of the year/season and the World Cup is such a small percentage of that. If Sneijder's World Cup performances paired with his great season at Inter are enough to out-do Messi's far superior season, then this award is no more than a glorified Golden Ball award.

The World Cup effect really devalues this award.

Nah, Lucio's not on Nesta's level.

Milan conceded only 5 more than Inter over the course of last season. Who did Lucio have accompanied wit him? Zanetti, Maicon, Samuel, J.Cesar et al . Nesta? A rookie, second-rate keepers, and Zambrotta. In front of Lucio? Cambiasso. In front of Nesta? Dinosaurs.

Not too much of a comparison, Nesta commanded an average Milan defence. Lucio had stalwarts either side of him.

This isn't about who is on what level, this is about who played well and what they achieved over the year. Lucio was the better player and achieved more over the year.

I love how Milito wasn't nominated for Ballon dOr but wins UEFA Player of the Year.
