Seen better goalkepers in table football. Looks a good dribbler, pathetic technique at times tho, needless toe-poke finishes, scuffed shots beyond the farcical goalkeeper. The amount of times defenders have just stood there and watched is comical, were tackles legal in the 1960's? Took a couple of penalties, looks like a lass or a kid kicking the ball, no real technique in his body or approach, just side foots it and hopes for the best. Dunno if footy was a competitive sport or a past time looking at these geezers, half the defenders look hammered. Really hard to judge on how good he was cos of the utter utter utter pieces of shite he came up against at times, fair play to the lad tho, can only beat whats infront of you.
"You would have to say honestly, no. But I have to tell you, when I walked through the door, more than any other player, he grabbed me - and he grabbed me within two training sessions. I asked, 'Who's that?'.

Fucking spot on mate, I hate the Pele wankage, nowhere near the likes of Ronaldo, Henry, Batistuta et al. I watched the Batistuta one last night, absolutely amazing player.

It's so true, this documentary thing was a real eye opener like, if this geezer is the best of all time I'll be lining up in EPL football next week.

edit- randome example there, Spurs playing Everton, commentator just said the game finished 10-4 in 1958. Similar time Pele was beginning to become a 'great', the game was clearly a joke.

Yeah it's embarrassing, people bang on about how we're too young to appreciate it but that's for nothing to do with it, the poor quality of football is there for all to see.

I'd wager most people haven't seen him play.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

I have a Boys From Brazil DVD and most of them don't look too great tbh. Football in general doesn't.

And ha bloody ha at any jokes of the DVD name.

He looks amazing from the Selecao DVD I have, same with Rivelino, Jairzinho and all their other legends. They had this Josimar bloke at RB in the mid 70s and he looked like he'd eat Maicon for breakfast.

That said I've not seen more than 1 or 2 full games of any of those players so I won't say anything about them, good or bad.

I say it time and time again, I really believe that if I was as good as I am now and I lived in the 50's I'd be a professional footballer, verging on an England call up. Football was dire back then, embarrassing.

:hysterics: :hysterics: :hysterics: Maybe an exxageration but they seriously looked shit. No tactics in the game at all, I wonder what preperation went into the matches other than a few pints before kick off.

WRONG.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.
