But Newcastle have done the same thing over a tackle that was nowhere near as bad and seem to be getting treated like victims by everybody.

On second thoughts i do feel sorry for De Jong, just seems like people really are hopping on the bandwagon

it was more of a deliberate tackle from de jong, even though i think he didnt intend to break ben arfa's leg he still "wanted him to know he is there". it was a bit too robust but i like full blooded challenges and its part of the game, if you take that away then we really are turning it into a non contact sport.

i do think newcastle are wrong to appeal btw

So they should allow the likes of Arsenal play their football and spank them 4 or 5 nil?

i think also there is a lot to be learnt from this, players need to learn how to tackle,
De Jong is one of the best tacklers in the world, it was just an unfortunate challenge.

i was speaking more in general

there appears to be more injuries from tackles now than there has been for a long time, and i think there are less "bruisers" in the game now than there used to be.

players like adams and butcher used to go in hard, but they were old school defenders and i don't recall many broken legs back then.

that said, i think its fair to say that due to the game being faster now, it is harder to time tackles perfectly, and as the players are more "fine tuned" athletes now injuries will be more common.

i'm not going to lay in to de jong, cos i don't think any player ever goes in to deliberately hurt another player, i think he was reckless and this time he hasn't got away with it.

i certainly don't think hard tackles should be frowned upon, i just think maybe it's time that players need to think about an action before they take it, and that the art of tackling should be considered more on the training ground rather than the "get into them" mentality which seems to be being taught by some managers

Aren't you funny. Out of curiosity, was this Wilshere's 3rd/4th violent challenge? Was just wondering.
"You would have to say honestly, no. But I have to tell you, when I walked through the door, more than any other player, he grabbed me - and he grabbed me within two training sessions. I asked, 'Who's that?'.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

“I just want to say that I mistimed the challenge on Zigic and accept that I deserved to be sent off,” said Wilshere.

“I have no complaints about getting the red card and I will learn from this. I’m missing three matches now which I’m really disappointed about, but I just want to say that I deserved the red card.”
