Nothing will happen to De Jong, it was a good tackle ffs. Did none of you notice how none of the Newcastle players even complained about it and carried on playing like normal. Play only stopped once the referee realised he was injured.
Play to the whistle they say, shame Malbranque wasn't taught this in Belgium though the nervous gimp
"You would have to say honestly, no. But I have to tell you, when I walked through the door, more than any other player, he grabbed me - and he grabbed me within two training sessions. I asked, 'Who's that?'.

Bruce just said that to try and take the blame away from Steed. No way did he think he was offside, just bottled it.

Twente forward Marc Janko claims Huddlestone deliberately ''smashed his arm into my face'' and left him with a nosebleed while the pair tussled during Wednesday evening's Group A clash at White Hart Lane.

Spurs midfielder Huddlestone was not punished over the incident on the night - indeed he was being fouled by Janko at the time and the free-kick went the other way - but UEFA may decide to take retrospective action after viewing video evidence.

Manager Redknapp revealed he had watched footage of the first-half challenge and acknowledged Huddlestone had made contact with his elbow but cast doubt on whether there was any intent.

''I have looked at it. I'd be a liar if I sat here and said I hadn't it, wouldn't I? I know some managers do that,'' he said. ''It's not like Tom, he's not at all an aggressive player, he's a fantastic footballer and a great guy.

''It looked like he caught him with an elbow. Whether he meant to do it, I'm not so sure. Hopefully, nothing will come of it and we can all move on.''

Were Huddlestone to be charged and banned over the matter, he could miss Spurs' mouthwatering Champions League double-header with holders Inter Milan.

Janko said: ''If you look at the TV pictures, you will see he clearly hit me on purpose. He smashed his arm into my face. Then when I showed the ref my bleeding nose, he smiled at me.''

Spurs later had Rafael van der Vaart dismissed for two bookable offences and Janko claimed his side would have won the game had they been playing nine men.

He added: ''With Huddlestone off and then Van der Vaart, we would have stolen the three points. It's sad they needed the ref's help.''

I've searched youtube and can't even find a video for fuck sake this is a disgrace, Huddlestone has smashed Janko in the face with an intentional elbow and nobody has even said a word, on this forum, in the media, nobody has even upped it to youtube. If De Jong did that he'd be hung. Fucking pathetic creatures you lot are.

It seemed unlikely that the meeting between Manchester City and Newcastle United would be the most discussed match after a weekend in which we saw Chelsea beating Arsenal 2-0, Barcelona spilling points against Real Mallorca, Bayern Munich dropping to 12th spot in the table after a loss against Borussia Dortmund and Ajax losing their unbeaten status in the Eredivisie at home against Utrecht. However, this was exactly the case in The Netherlands on Sunday.

It wasn't so much City's 2-1 victory that was the point of discussion though, as a Nigel de Jong tackle on Hatem Ben Arfa after only four minutes of play was the main discussion point. The Dutch international pretty much ended the Olympique Marseille loan star's season with an ugly challenge that led to a broken tibia and fibula in Ben Arfa's left leg and this didn't go down too well in the holding midfielder's native country.

A large part of Dutch football show Studio Voetbal was spent discussing De Jong's tackle on the French attacker and the pundits present in the studio took a firm stance against the former Hamburg star. Current Sparta coach Jan Everse gave De Jong the advice to visit a psychiatrist to sort things out, while TV personality Hugo Borst (a well respected football journalist before his popularity battle with fellow pundit Johan Derksen started) even went as far as labelling the Dutch international "a criminal". Additionally, Borst called De Jong "a disgrace to Dutch football".

The shared point of view of the panel of experts was somehow that Holland coach Bert van Marwijk should drop the Manchester City star from the Oranje squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden. Van Marwijk didn't seem to be too impressed in his initial reaction, even though he didn't seem particularly pleased with the situation either.

"He's not doing it on purpose, but he's going into his challenges too recklessly every now and then. He doesn't need to do this kind of tackle, but he didn't even get booked for it in England. They apparently have different standards there. I'm planning to have a word with Nigel on this in the near future though," said Van Marwijk in a press conference.

However, one day later, Van Marwijk made the decision to punish the energetic midfielder for his reckless challenge after all by dropping him from the squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers. The Oranje coach decided not to explain his decision verbally until Wednesday, but the KNVB (Dutch football association) released an official statement where Van Marwijk defended his decision with the following words:

"I've just informed the squad that I have dropped Nigel from the team following Sunday's events. I didn't see any other possibilities than leaving him out of the team. I will further discuss his situation with Nigel later on."

Even though Van Marwijk's words leave some room for speculation about the exact reason behind De Jong's dismissal, there appears to be little doubt that the Dutch gaffer has axed the midfielder because of his physical approach.

However, Van Marwijk's sudden stance against De Jong's physical style of play seems a bit odd considering the midfielder's involvement in previous incidents. The 25-year-old made the headlines for all the wrong reasons for the first time in September 2009 when he made a reckless challenge on Japan star Shunsuke Nakamura in an international friendly. De Jong then again was the centre of attention after Oranje's international friendly against USA in March 2010 when he broke Stuart Holden's leg with a tough tackle.

This didn't stop Van Marwijk including De Jong in Oranje's World Cup squad though and the former Ajax star was once again heavily criticised in South Africa after heavy challenges on Denmark's Martin Jorgensen in the group stage and on Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso in the final. Alongside De Jong, Bayern Munich star Mark van Bommel made a number of heavy tackles as well at the 2010 showpiece.

Van Marwijk never publicly spoke out against his midfield duo's physical approach and the fact that both Van Bommel and De Jong continued to be called upon for Oranje seemed to imply that the Holland coach didn't think their tough tackling to be too much of a problem. Therefore, it seems a bit odd that Van Marwijk now all of a sudden sees "no other choice but to drop De Jong" after a tackle that was more of an unfortunate accident than it was a horror challenge, especially when you think of what we've seen from De Jong and Van Bommel before.

Bearing this in mind, it appears as if the Manchester City midfielder's physical approach to the game is not the only reason behind his dismissal from the Oranje squad.

Van Marwijk has pretty much received nothing but praise since his appointment as Holland coach and the former Feyenoord gaffer doesn't have too much experience in dealing with pressure from the various media outlets. It looks like this has cost De Jong his spot in the national side for now.

Van Marwijk didn't look like taking any measurements against the influential midfielder when he voiced his opinion about De Jong's tackle late on Sunday afternoon, but the Dutch coach all of a sudden felt like he needed to prove a point only twelve hours later.

The 58-year-old Van Marwijk was feeling a lot of pressure from various Dutch newspapers, websites and famous pundits to take a stance against De Jong and his tough tackling. And even though he initially appeared to be reluctant to do so, Van Marwijk eventually decided to drop him after all.

It's not unlikely that Sunday evening's broadcast of Studio Voetbal and the headlines in Monday morning's newspapers have affected Van Marwijk's opinion. Dropping De Jong from the team even seems more like an attempt to save his own skin than Van Marwijk taking a stance against the midfielder's physical style of play.

Either way, Van Marwijk has lost all credibility as national team coach with his decision to axe De Jong from the Oranje squad. If the midfielder's tough tackling is indeed the reason behind the midfielder's omission, Van Marwijk's making himself ridiculous with his sudden change of moral after the 2010 World Cup. If he has been influenced by the public pressure, Van Marwijk is clearly not the right man for the position he currently occupies. As the national team coach, it's his job to call-up the best team, not to select the squad that pleases the Dutch press most.

Newcastle United's Hatem Ben Arfa has reportedly turned away Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong from visiting him in hospital, after the latter was the cause behind the Frenchman suffering a broken leg.

The two sides clashed at the City of Manchester Stadium just prior to the international break. And it was less than 10 minutes into the game before an ill-timed challenge from the Dutchman saw Ben Arfa being stretchered off.

As the 23-year-old recovers from surgery on his left foot, the Daily Mail claims that De Jong tried to pay a visit to the France international, only to be told he cannot visit him in hospital.

Indeed, it has been reported that Ben Arfa did not wish to see anyone from the Eastlands club, owing to the incident that sees him sidelined for a significant period of time.

City are thought to have adhered to the 23-year-old's wishes, and instead sent him a gift as a sign of good will.

yet Shawcross got away with a true horror challeneg
the force that broke ramseys leg wasnt applied by shawcross lol it was in no way a horror tackle.

and dag, if arsenal went to the fa like newcastle they would be called pussies and rightly so.

imo de jong has been made a scapegoat, you could tell the dutch were disappointed that their national team has gone from total football to a more devious/physical approach and were hurt by the worlds criticism of the WC final. in a way the dutch are very much like arsenal, very idealistic and probably were relived they didnt win the world cup in the wrong way.

having watched the tackle, yes he got the ball, but for me it is still a bad challenge

the issue with de jong isn't whether he got the ball or not, or even if he had his studs up, its how he throws himself full bodied into the tackle.

he did the same with holden. he has gone flying in, probably with the view of winning the ball, but it the complete lack of thought of the impact its going to have.

is it a horror tackle, maybe not, but he certainly went into it recklessly.

theres a difference between a well timed hard tackle and a reckless hard tackle. hes not sliding in to win a ball with a well timed slide, he's throwing himself at it.

the game is about contact at the end of day, but we need to learn the difference between a good tackle and a reckless one. just cos he won the ball in this instance, it doesn't mean its a good tackle

i think also there is a lot to be learnt from this, players need to learn how to tackle, they also need to learn how to anticipate and ride tackles, i think a review of shin pads etc is needed, cos there are too many broken legs recently, and im not convinced its the tackling thats the only reason

i was wrong about the force not coming from shawcross but look at that video. pause it at 0.23 he is clearly attempting to kick the ball with his left foot....then a fraction of a second later ramsey pips him to the ball and because his foot is planted it snaps. no intention whatsoever to cause injury it was just an accident and to complain about that is just playing the victim card.

valencia broke his ankle v rangers but not one united fan is calling for punishment

its a physical game and an unfortunate accident. complaining to the fa to retrospectively punish a player who had already received a red card and a 3 game ban for an accident like that is silly, and would rightly be treated as an attempt to pussify our league.
