We've also enquired about Balotelli. I know he's a cunt and all but how good is he?

:curse:

Balotelli really is a genius, some days he can look like the best player in the world, but others you can tell he can't be fucked to play and he'll look like a conference player. If you can rid him of his inconsistency and terrible attitude you have on your hands one of the world's best players.

We won't sign Balotelli; Mancini will just easily outbid United for him.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

I know he chose to stay at Inter, but I would love to see Sneijder at Old Trafford. He may not be the best player, but he isn't bad at all! He has good vision, decent off the ball movement, can shoot, and very fast-paced. It would be impossible for him to flop at United. In fact, he can only get better playing for us.

Quality net article:

Wesley Sneijder: A Legend in the Making (Lamentably...)

The World Cup has this ability to elevate the reputations of footballers higher than any other competition in the game. In recent years, the international arena at its most competitive has made legends out of Zinedine Zidane, Luis Ronaldo, and Fabio Cannavaro, all because they were deemed to have been the driving forces behind their countries’ campaigns in 1998, 2002, and 2006 respectively.

Just as the competition can make a legend, so too can it crush a potential one. Exceptional players such as Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Alessandro Nesta, and Ricardo Kaka will never go down alongside the “greats” of the modern game, largely due to their muted showings at World Cups. One could legitimately question whether the standard of football played over the past month in South Africa has reached anywhere near the heights of the 2009-10 Champions League, where viewers were persistently treated to the spectacular performances of Lionel Messi – another player who’s apparently uneventful showing this summer may well have cost his reputation dear.

Wesley Sneijder's Brilliant Year

That Sneijder has had a remarkable year is beyond debate. Having been shipped off to Internazionale following the inception of a second Galactico era at Real Madrid, the Dutchman took the creator role in a previously stale Inter side and a couple of goals here and there helped them win an unprecedented treble. More than anything else, however, it is his form in this year’s World Cup that has brought him so close to the pantheon of footballing greats. His five “goals” – dubiously accredited to him though they may be – and two assists have driven the Netherlands to the Final of football’s greatest event, and a crucial piece of play on Sunday would surely see him take all the plaudits once again.

Is He Worth The Hype?

In Wesley Sneijder, football has a player who is perhaps no more than borderline world class but is about to become a footballing great. A creative talisman he may be, but to even suggest comparisons between him and one of his positional brothers, such as Ricardo Kaka (circa 2005-2007), would be terribly unfair. Kaka’s grace and smoothness belied his efficacy as a trequartista, with his ruthlessness in front of goal shown in AC Milan’s 2007 Champions League campaign where the Brazilian topped the scoring charts from midfield with a massive 10 goals. By contrast, Sneijder is often clumsy in possession, with his touch in the tight spaces between defence and midfield often letting him down. His passing range is exceptional, but the amount of times he attempts to hit Hollywood-style passes and, more often than not, therefore waste possession is staggering. Just this World Cup, his long-range pass completion rate is a mere 44%, executing only 230 out 325 of his total passes. Compare this to Xavi Hernandez’s rate of 90% this tournament and the hype surrounding the Dutchman appears slightly more incredulous.

Moreover, at club level, it’s not exactly as if his performances for Inter this season were central to their success. Jose Mourinho’s side earned their achievements primarily through defensive solidity, with Esteban Cambiasso, Lucio, Walter Samuel, Douglas Maicon, Julio Cesar, and Javier Zanetti all being far more responsible for their glorious Champions League triumph. Readers should cast their minds back to the Champions League Semi-Final second-leg against Barcelona at Camp Nou. For 90 minutes Mourinho’s side was hemmed in by the wealth of attacking talent at the Catalans' disposal. But, they were ultimately shut out, and it was far more the work of the defensive unit than through the creative capacity of Wesley Sneijder that lay behind this masterstroke. Compare Sneijder’s club contribution this season to that of someone like Lionel Messi (47 goals in 50 games) or Cristiano Ronaldo (33 goals in 35 games) and his potential contention for December's Ballon d’Or seems horrendously unfair.

Sneijder has been critically important to the Netherlands so far; with him on the pitch the Netherlands truly have a match-winner amidst their ranks. But the way pundits and papers are writing about him now would make anyone would think he’s been the most impressive player to have graced the tournament – something which is patently untrue given the truly exceptional performances of Spain’s David Villa, Uruguay’s Diego Forlan and Germany’s Bastian Schweinsteiger.

His Legacy

Holland’s #10 has the potential to end 2009-10 as a treble winner with Internazionale, a World Cup victor with the Netherlands, and the Golden Boot winner of the World Cup. These accolades, most significantly the latter two, will surely bring with them FIFA’s prestigious World Player of the Year award, and with that one would expect his name to be lifted above those of Scholes, Lampard, and Kaka for posterity. It doesn’t really seem fair does it?

Firstly, I am so glad that Scholes and Lampard were mentioned, two of the greatest players never to win WPOTY, but Kaka has already won the Ballon D'or, so I'm a bit miffed by that example.

Secondly, even if he does win WPOTY, I doubt he'll ever surpass Scholes and Lampard in terms of stature.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart
