We've two drafts covering this period of players but we've never discussed what the best XI arising from these two decades is. There's a wealth of players to choose from, and this will be harder than you think it is at first glance.

Give it a go...

It depends on what kind of formation you'd use and whether you feel you'd need players who'd work well together, for example, it's quite clear that Henry and Ronaldo have been the best two strikers of the last two generations, but I don't think they'd work particularly well together, so I'd stick Batistuta alongside Ronaldo personally. As I said though, if you're looking for a team of 11 players who have been the best, then you'd probably have to go Henry and Ronaldo.

Then there's the formation issue, I could play 4312 and players like Figo and other sublime wingers would be left out because they never played in a 4312. I could use 442 but then some of the world's best DM's and AM's wouldn't really fit into the side.

So, I've compiled a list of the two/three/four greatest players in each position from the 1990-2010 era which I feel would be in with a shout of representing the world's greatest side.

GK - Buffon, Kahn.
LB - Maldini, R.Carlos.
RB - Cafu, Zanetti, Thuram, Maicon.
CB - Nesta, Thuram, Maldini, Baresi.
DM - Redondo, Makelele, Dunga.
CM - Pirlo, Vieira, Albertini.
AM - Zidane, Baggio, Kaka.
LW - Ronaldinho, C.Ronaldo, Nedved.
RW - Figo, Messi, Beckham.
CF - Ronaldo, Henry, Batistuta, Shevchenko.

My personal sides...

-----------------Buffon
Maicon--Nesta--Baresi--Maldini
-----Pirlo--Redondo--Nedved
----------------Zidane
--------Batistuta--Ronaldo

or

----------------Buffon
Zanetti--Nesta--Baresi--Maldini
-------------Pirlo--Redondo
-------Figo--Zidane--Ronaldinho
---------------Ronaldo

or

----------------Buffon
Maicon--Nesta--Baresi--Maldini
Figo--Vieira--Albertini--Dinho
---------Ronaldo--Batistuta

Glaring omissions: Scholes, Bergkamp, Baggio

But wow what an effort.

I cannot believe you haven't included Scholes in that list.

I was gonna put Scholes in there but I didn't wanna shortlist too many players. I've added Baggio in but he just slipped my mind, as did Bergkamp.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

A.Cole>R.Carlos imo, but Carlos is more likely to be in with a shout of making somebody's side because of the quality of his attacking play. If somebody said I want attacking full backs you'd go for Carlos, and if you wanted defensive solidity you'd go Maldini. Cole does both well, but he'll never be the best in either field.
