Barely any.
This is the thing with the "longevity" criterion, Inzaghi has clearly got more longevity than Sheva and RVN, but never sustained the same peak form as those two. This is why I'm tempted to say that RVN has had more longevity than Sheva as Ruud didn't simply slip into the shadows of the footballing world straight away from pretty lofty heights the previous season.

As for you Scholes, who would you say has had the best career out of Giggs and Pires?

Giggs, but Pires' peak was better than Giggs'.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Could the same reasoning that you applied to answer that question not also apply to the RVN-Inzaghi comparison?

Come on son, it's hardly comparable. RVN was world class for 8 years, Inzaghi barely has that much more longevity as a goo player, compared to the Giggs-Pires situation.

Ok, Ant claims that Nesta is the best here by miles and that Nesta's career > Cannavaro's. Thoughts everyone?

Round 2: Defenders

Using the same criteria...

1. John Terry
2. Rio Ferdinand
3. Ricardo Carvalho
4. Jaap Stam
5. Alessandro Nesta
Nesta has had the better career from the five by a long, long way.

In order of who has had the better career...

1. Nesta
2. Stam
3. Ferdinand
4. Carvalho
5. Terry

That pretty much sums up how I feel about them as players too, Nesta is far greater than the other four and will go down as one of the best CBs of all time. Stam and Ferdinand were closely matched in terms of their careers but Stam was the better defender. Terry I feel has outperformed Ferdinand and Carvalho for years now and I feel he's been a better player over his career but he certainly hasn't achieved the ultimate goal, something the remaining two have, and that's winning the Champions League. Carvalho at his peak I'd go as far to say was the second best defender on that list, but he just didn't sustain those levels of performance for long enough.

Nesta>>>>>>>Cannavaro in terms of career, ability and stature (for anybody that knows football anyway).

It's more about him being the talisman behind the Italian WC triumph. Nesta fucked off injured after game 2.
