Try to think not just in terms of how good each player was - although that obviously comes into it - but also in terms of (i) longevity, (ii) trophies, (iii) status

1. Raul
2. Inzaghi
3. Shevchenko
4. Van Nistelrooy

Inzaghi is a clear fourth.

RVN wins IMO, though it's between him and Shevchenko. Raul is very close though.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

RVN didn't even win a CL, so I'm ruling him out. He was my 4th choice in all honesty, just put him in to get more debate going.

As in Inzaghi the World Cup winner and two-time Champions league winner?

Being regarded as better than a fellow world class striker is more important than winning trophies IMO. I'd certainly be happier with my career if I was regarded as better than my fellow pros, so I don't see how RVN can fall below Inzaghi. Trophies aren't as important as you think.

Surely the Lampard vs Gerrard debate goes against this? I think trophies are crucial tbh, they are what define careers are they not?

It depends how much you contribute to what your club wins. As long as you produce the goods in big matches, it doesn't really matter what the outcome is. If John Terry scored his penalty in the CL final it would hardly have enhanced Lampard's stature. Lampard is what he is because he plays for a top side, and has produced more than any other player in it, and every goal he scores adds to his ever growing collection; that's what enhances his stature as a player.

Players are judged on how good they are individually, and believe me, I'd rather be respected and appreciated as a player by millions than have a massive trophy collection, no question. RVN > Inzaghi all day long, the former should be more satisfied with his career.

Winner.

I would say that RVN has had more longevity than Shevchenko.

Shevchenko was consistently world class for 7/8 years. RVN was world class for 3/4 years at United and then a couple of years max at Real Madrid. There's no contest for me.

How many seasons would you say Inzaghi was world class for?

Barely any.
