Not surprised at all to see there's 8 players and I'm sure there's another few lesser known names, squad players who didn't get games for one of the European Cup winning sides etc. Scholes' claim that not many have played for 4 of the clubs is correct, but he forgets that a player could've played for say Inter in any year other than between 1963-1965 and they then could've played for another Italian side like Juventus or Milan in the many years that they didn't win the thing. Dean Saunders is a perfect example of this sort of thing, not surprising that he played for three of the English clubs to have won it, during a period where English clubs' domination was ending and they were actually expelled from Europe altogether, a spell at Benfica then makes him one of them. I'm sure you could discover a player or two who played for 2 or 3 of the Dutch clubs and any one of the other sides and not picked up a winners medal. You can easily pick out a period of 10-15 years which covers a players time at the top where four of those sides (Real Madrid included) didn't get a look in when it came to European Cup finals. |
