If anything that shows that the national team isn't racist. If it was really racist why would it captain a black person 17 times?
Maybe Sol is claiming they are racist, I won't ever take the time to read the article. But you don't necessarily have to be racist to say - "Well, Beckham is a global superstar and a good face to put on all of the posters and the new kit ad-campaigns".

Sol would have been as good a choice as any to be captain during his prime.

Three games.
Doesn't exactly indicate racism to me. Just that the manager felt other candidates were more suitable for the job. If the FA were racist they wouldnt let him be captain at all and would have given it to another white person on those 3 occasions

Campbell also talked of the abuse he received following his controversial move from Spurs to Arsenal in 2001, and discussed the homophobic slurs repeatedly used to bait him by rival crowds. "Because people didn't see me falling out of clubs or shagging in the alleys with different girls every week, they thought something was wrong with me. I'm a footballer, after all."

Winner.

"If I go to Anfield and someone puts the ball into the box and Carragher hammers it out of play the fans applaud. At Camp Nou you would never be applauded for that." - Xavi

It's people who try and defend Campbell's thoughts such as this that blow things like racism and homophobia etc completely out of proportion and make a massive deal of situations which really aren't the time and effort.

Quality line from Sol.

And Chrissy, you can't blow racism and homophobia out of proportion. They both exist and are both shitty things. Whether racism applies here or not is another matter.

You can, and this is a prime case. What if someone high up took Campbell seriously, started launching investigations and people started getting suspended/sacked for something that isn't even there? People start making outrageous claims because they know they can get away with it and be taken seriously, don't think they're completely the victims in all of this.

A saw a fb status from a gay lad the other day and it was something about everyone segregating the gay community or some shit - he then referred to gays as "us". For me that sums it up - you want to be treated like the rest of us yet you refer to yourselves as your own separate group. If people stopped believing they were fucking different to everyone and make a big song and dance about it all may people will stop treating you a lot differently. Until then, I have no sympathy for any of "them" whatsoever, pure attention seekers.

So you're using a message on FB where somebody says "us" to add weight to your argument despite being using the exact same terms in your post. Jesus mate.

Pretty low level stuff right there. He even says "song and dance" lol Nah, Gay people are absolutely not a subject of ridicule.

And that's any less racist that what any white man could say? Proves my point tbh. Also adds another point, it's fine when the shoes on the other foot. Exhibit B. Cheers.

Yes and I outlined clearly in my post that I'd continue to refer to them that way until they change their point of view.

You mean until that random dude on FB changed his point of view? Or started considering what bigots might read into the wording his FB messages in order to justify their own views?

Until people's attitude in general change. I don't go around making a big point about being straight and proud. I don't really want to see anyone eating the face off each other in public, but if it was two men would it make me a homophobe? If I think a gay man is just simply a cunt am I homophobic? The answer is no, but that's not at all how it would be perceived.

At the end of the day, I'd never make a decision on something purely because someone is gay. There's a lad in our friendship group at uni that's gay and it have no problem with him I get on with him well. Why? Because he doesn't act like he's gay. He doesn't make a deal about it, he doesn't care what people think and that's exactly how it should be. If he didn't tell us he was gay you wouldn't know and that's the point I'm making. There's stereotypes for gay people and that's what the problem is because they feel the need to act differently. The other night this lads brother came up and we were chanting "you're just a straight Robbie Watson" at him and we all had a laugh. A lot of other people would be offended because we're implying his brother is superior in some way when that's not the case at all.

As I say, I don't have a problem with someone for being gay. I don't like the idea of it and I don't really understand it but I would never make it a problem. The problem is all the bravado that surrounds being gay, feeling a need to promote it and whatever. No one wants to hear it so stop making such a fuss and get on with your life, and others will too.
