From the moment Robin Van Persie stepped onto the pitch tonight, it was clear what Arsenal had been lacking for 5 months. The Dutchman came on and changed the game instantly, his presence lifted the side, his talismanic qualities shone through instantly as he skinned a north London rival with one sumptuous piece of control, and it was he that created Arsenal's only goal, Arsenal's only worthwhile attack in the opening 85 minutes. Despite being without him for the majority of the season, Arsenal have managed to maintain a lasting title challenge and many fans would argue that had a few things gone their way this season they could still be topping the table now.

In light of this, how do you feel Man Utd would have done this season without Rooney for 5 months? How would Chelsea have done without Drogba? Would both sides still be within touching distance of the top? Arsenal's quality in depth has been berated this season but do you honestly feel United and Chelsea would still be where they are now without their star strikers and 5 first team regulars out for long periods?

Chelsea would have a few less points but it wouldn't be a huge amount as Anelka would have still done a good job and they have other players to chip in with goals. United would have been fucked without Rooney and i don't think anybody can argue with that. We'd have much fewer points and i actually dread to think where we would be without him.

Oh and RVP would mean Arsenal having more points too. I'd love to be able to see how things would have been had Rooney been injured and RVP fit. Obviously not like it to happen but just see what the table would look like. He changed the game completely when he came on today.

Lol, United had the worst defensive injury problems in PL history for the first half of the season, amazing how quickly people forget that.

Arsenal have done well without RVP, no question.

Walcott did well for the goal as well, RVP timed the pass nicely but Walcott found the space and delivered a telling cross, which as usual was converted by the great Dane Super Nik, scoring his 9th goal in his last 11 games. The lad is a great goalscorer in all honesty but is probably better off taking centre stage at a lesser club where he won't have to fighting for a starting place with someone of RVP's ilk. The pressure leading up to that goal was brilliant from Arsenal and other players deserve credit for Arsenal's late onslaught, not just RVP.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

If RvP had stayed fit for this whole season we'd be top of the league, absolutely no question in my mind.

Don't you dare fucking praise Lolcott and Bender in a thread containing RvP's name. Both were horrendously poor today, fucking taking the piss.

Bendtner is not a fucking CF and will never be. His touch is far too shit to be playing up against 2 CBs,

All we can do at this stage is just think of what might've been. Remember when they beat some side 4-0 on there own turf without Rooney, most would have agreed that they're a good side with or without Rooney. Now, after 2 toothless performances without him, most agree that they would be a whole lot worse off without him. Without hugely influential players teams change, with Van Persie this season we were a side that played lovely football with a cutting edge but were also vulnerable, without him we were a bunch of warriors who played with spirit & fight but lacked raw quality.

Things would've been different if different things happened, that's all we know

Yeah, people are forgetting that United don't have the luxury of a supporting cast of world class/borderline world class attackers to draw from. Rooney is genuinely the only player we can rely upon to score.

Arsenal have RVP, but they also have Fabregas, and Bendtner seems capable of chipping in with an adequate amount. Chelsea have Drogba, and to support him they've got Lamps, Anelka, and now Florent Malouda.

Our supporting cast lies in the defensive area with Rio, VDS, Vidic, and Evra. Arsenal and Chelsea are all pretty well catered for in terms of overall sqaud depth, United can't boast the same with regards to our attacking department.
