Manchester City forward Craig Bellamy has launched an astonishing attack on his fellow professionals, claiming he is "ashamed to be a footballer".

The 30-year-old says he finds it difficult to be close to team-mates who live a different lifestyle to him.

Bellamy also revealed he cannot understand players who can be "tourists" on the pitch and not give their all.

Quoted in the News of the World, Bellamy said: "I don't feel close to footballers. Sometimes when I see certain things I'm ashamed to be a footballer.

"I don't go to nightclubs, I don't go to lounge bars, I don't spend my days shopping. That doesn't interest me. I spend a lot of time with my children at home. That's where I feel good.

"I don't know how to be on the pitch as a tourist. Some lads do that but I can't. When I play, I play for real. I never pretend.

"I know I get carried away by emotion. I have always been like that. I don't give a toss whether that pleases people or not. I do my thing. What counts for me is the respect of my family, people who know me, my manager and my team-mates."

Bellamy has featured regularly for City since joining from West Ham United in January 2009 but admits he does not know where his future lies given the amount of money available for boss Roberto Mancini to spend.

"New players are coming in a few months and I might be overtaken," he added.

"I don't see myself playing for [Manchester] City in two or three years, lifting trophies."

Lol, nice of you to cut out half of the interview where he explains why he doesn't see himself lifting trophies in 2/3 years...He said his injuries will take their toll and he won't be able to play anymore. But for the rest of the article, he's bang on, refreshing to hear and my opinions on the lad have changed so much in the last year.
