Who would you be taking to the World Cup based on the season so far? 23 Players, any realistic combination you like... Edited by rollingstone, Feb 8 2010, 10:50 AM.

Hart, Foster, Green - Hart would be my first choice with Foster as back up. Johnson, Ferdinand, Terry, A.Cole, Richards, Cahill, Lescott - two world class centre backs in JT and Rio and possibly the best LB in the world in Ashley Cole. Richards has improved and matured as a player this season, Lescott is a good defender and very good cover for CB and LB if needed. Cahill will miss the WC so Wes Brown would probably get the nod now. Lennon, Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Barry, Carrick, Young, SWP - Milner must go for me. Lamps, Gerrard and Barry are the certains and i believe Carrick offers us a lot as well. Young, SWP and Lennon are all players who can change a game yet can just as much have no impact what so ever. Capello will pick Beckham though. Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Bent, Agbonlahor - Rooney = World Class. End of. Defoe and Bent are impact strikers who can poach in the box, Gabby has the pace to go at slow and tired defenders and Crouch offers height for when we sunday league it up top. |

Why the fuck does Barry get into the team ahead of Carrick? |

Because you need somebody unspectacular who'll do the basics right and keep the side ticking when you have a side filled with the likes of Gerrard and Lampard. |

I sort of agree with Ant in why Barry should get in before Carrick, but seriously, if Carrick keeps up this form, Capello will find it hard to leave him out. Carrick is THE form England midfielder right now. |

the jury is still out on carrick for some people i think. my opinion is the same as yours that Carrick does have more to his game than Barry but a lot will disagree. |

Joe Hart as England's #1 is a poor choice. He's received one solitary cap as a full international! |

And the other keepers have covered themselves in glory with their caps? Bollocks. There is only one man that should be #1 for the world cup and that is Hart, he should be first choice in all of the warm up games to get him ready and he should be gearing up to take the world by storm when the WC comes around. He is England's best by a long, long way, and amount of caps earned is not a legitimate reason to leave him out of the side. |

He's Pompey's #1 and has started 15 games this season. That - plus the fact that he's an established international with 49 caps - makes him the best selection for South Africa. RM hasn't even put him in his squad, choosing that wasteman Ben Foster ahead of him! |

Go back a few days and he was second choice to an unproven youngster in Begovic. The bloke's a calamity and is most definitely not our best option in goal. |

He wasn't 2nd choice, part of his contract stated that if he played a certain amount of games then a new 1 year contract worth 60k per week would be triggered. Pompy weren't playing him because they can't afford to honour that clause |
