I agree. This fella looked like he had it all worked out. In terms of his reading of the game and positionally he was more or less perfect.

LOL and just looking at this video and how good he was contributing to attacks, he was on another level to Rio and Terry, so much better at defending and so much more as a footballer in general. I seen a few older games and that but also seen a few full games of him towards the end of his career and I really don't remember him making any mistakes, he was that good that I don't think he really made many. The ultimate defender.

Alex Song mark II.
Scholes

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

The game has progressed so much since 15 years ago.

I really don't think that would matter to Baresi. His reading of the game was so good that he would have no problem dealing with today's players.

Italian defending is just so amazing, they just know how to protect their goal, shutting down angles for passes and in the event of a pass squeezing through, there's two centre-backs ready to pounce because they just know where the ball is going, where they can be penetrated.

Baresi would still shut down almost every attacker these days, I don't think there's any doubt about that.

I could just so easily claim that Pele's vision and talent would've allowed him to score more goals than Ronaldo did. Pointless argument, there's nothing tangible for you to base this on, end of discussion.

Nice vid, but the title claim in the thread is pure hypocritical shit. DaG should know better.

We're talking about a pretty much perfect defender here though and we're talking about a defender that was around 15 years ago as opposed to Pele who is a 50's / 60's player. Big difference there. The game hasn't really evolved that much in 15 years. Go back to 1994 and you had Barcelona's great team with so much talent like Stoichkov, Romario, Guardiola, Koeman, Bakero etc. and they, WITHOUT DOUBT played better football than anyone these days, apart from maybe err... Barcelona!

They met Milan in the 1994 final and with all that array of attacking talent what happened when they came up against an Italian defence led by Baresi? AC Milan 4-0 Barcelona

Says it all really. Baresi would have no trouble defending against players who play in a game that has progressed 15 years. He was already 20 years ahead of the finest attackers/strikers back then!

Same principle, you just like the player you've decided to ignore it for.

What has rolling said that is that bad? He's just stating that ManYou has nothing that proves Baresi would be a success in the modern game. He's not saying he wouldn't be a success, just that you can't know that he could. He's attacking the thread title for making ridiculous cross generational comparisons when DaG himself has already dismissed people who make them as moronic.

Winner.
