Top ten defenders of this decade anyone?

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

In no particular order.

Nesta
Cannavaro
Ayala
Stam
Ferdinand
Terry
Carvalho
Thuram
Maldini

I'll stick to centre-backs and I've only named 9, I'm sure I've missed someone I shouldn't have and can't think of who it should be so I'll leave that spot open for now.

Hyypia? Hmm... He would be one of quite a few who would be in the running.

Out of the ones I mentioned, if you're talking about consistency throughout the entire decade then Ferdinand would probably be 9th or 10th as he only really emerged as a supreme defender from 2006 onwards. I think the other 8 are hardly debatable and I wold expect to see them in most, if not everyone's list should they make one.

There's the likes of Hyypia, Vidic, Lucio, Carragher, Campbell and many others. I don't think many fall into that elite defender category though. Carragher or Hyypia were at one stage but like Ferdinand, didn't really do it for 7-10 years like the others. It's hard to call, I'm gonna wait and see who elses name pops up. :D

I love how you lot are always going on about how X or Y would be wanked if they were Italian :hysterics: Could say exactly the same thing about most people on this forum though, if Cassano was English Roonaldo would be calling him the greatest player to have ever lived...
Er no I wouldn't good player but can't hack it at the very highest level, if Rooney played for anyone other than united you wouldn't be saying the shit you do about him.

Gallas shouldn't be overlooked. He's in the chasing pack. Jurgen kohler and Tony Adams were better than rio too.

Disagree with Adams and kohler to be honest, although I suppose if your an arsenal fan you'd say Adams and rio if your a united fan. With Adams you knew what you were getting and he was a fantastic leader but, imo, rio was more gifted and the game has changed alot since Adams retired.

Jaap Stam is so overratd.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Ferdinand was just phenomenal that year, I remember watching him lead a patchwork defence against Barcelona and Roma - one that had capitulated a year earlier - like an absolute warrior, completely inspired his whole backline, even Wes Brown. Special, special player, can't honestly say I've seen a better defender, though I suppose that's not saying much; pity he's gone to seed now though :(

Winner.
