The awareness was just as good if not better than Guti's too.

This is such a dreadful comment :greatpost: Worst post of the year in relation to how good a poster said person is.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

We will see Rooney do something similar to that I'm sure and he won't get the credit Guti is receiving for this, I can assure you of that.

The two are different yes but Rooney displays good awareness and intelligence many times on the pitch, especially in fast, counter-attacking moves like this but Ant in particular just won't acknowledge it, but he will will for just about anyone else. It's time people just gave the lad some credit for what he does.

Yeh but we're talking about these specific examples.

Look Scholes, I didn't put that up as if to say "Look, Rooney did this too, now praise him for it".

It was the first example of a back heel I could think of but the point I am making is that when Rooney does something very good, it's average, every single time but when Guti or someone else does it, it's an entirely different story. As if Rooney has never unselfishly played a nice, unexpected pass when he was more or less through on goal himself. The fact that it was a SIMPLE back heel doesn't make it all that much better. But of course this is Rooney we're talking about here, obviously it's average.

If it's such a simple back heel then how come 99 times out of 100 players would not make that pass?????????????

You don't understand football as much as I thought if you think Rooney's backheel displayed anywhere near the type of awareness Guti's did and you are still yet to address that point.

Surely Scholes the main thing is the awareness. Guti was aware of Benzema's run behind and fair play to him for that it was great awareness but after that the pass is an absolute formality and a back heel is the most obvious and easiest way of executing it. I don't want to hear any more bollocks about that back heel, as if it was a piece of fucking technical genius.

Of course Guti was more 'blind' to his target's whereabouts than Rooney was but he still showed good awareness and understanding of his teammate's movement anyways. Since Rooney had already been involved in the move with Tevez, the back heel, of course, was more obvious.

Can people shut the fuck up about Rooney ffs!?!? I used to like the bloke but this is doing my fucking head in. Pathetic attempt from ManYou to derail the thread.

Brilliant assist from Guti; no, it wasn't entirely necessary but it was still beautiful and fantastic, world class goal.

It's not as if I was attempting to derail the thread. I'm just irritated by the difference in what Rooney does as opposed to any other player. 90% of threads get derailed in a similar fashion and by page three, the discussion is different and involving a player who wasn't anything to do with the original post.

If I have ruined this thread for everyone, I do apologise.

Wtf, I've said about 5 fucking times that Rooney's backheel required more technical excellence, and you've come round to agreeing with my assessment in the last paragraph. Put most players with the ability to produce that backheel in Rooney's position and they would attempt it. Put most players with the ability to execute Guti's backheel in his position and they would go for goal themselves.

Scholes they went from back to front in fourteen seconds, utterly brilliant counter, capped off by a bit of individual flair and genius, of course it's a world class goal.

Yeah I understand that Scholes. He showed great awareness and great unselfishness to play the pass that resulted in a greater chance of a goal, but really I've seen Rooney things like that many times although the move might not have been as slick as the Benzema goal but the same qualities were on show anyways.

You haven't ruined the thread, it would just be nice if Rooney hadn't replaced Gerrard as the forum's 'go-to' person for a ridiculous debate in which no-one is going to change their opinion so there's no point bringing it up at all. You saw Ant's comment and somehow got annoyed with him because it wasn't Rooney he was praising - accussing him of writing three paragraphs of wanking on it, when he actually only wrote one!!!

Needless.
