As far as I'm concerned, Italy always has the best defence. Not only do they always have the best selection of defenders, but they know the art of defending better than anyone. This will pretty much always be the case.
Spot on.

Pique-Puyol
Terry - Rio
Puyol Pique is a better partnership. More athletic, just as good aerially, far better on the ball, etc, etc.
i would say Rio is better on the ball than all of them and is still as quick as he was 3 or 4 years a go and considering he's been playing with an injured back for the last year. Terry is better in the air and a better in the tackle. Puyol will never touch Rio or JT's ability. Pique might one day but i'd rather have the English CB's

Elcule made up his mind on Rio about this time last season, maybe a couple of months later. He can't seem to understand that him wanting something to happen doesn't mean it will.
Lol it's not that, he's just been wank everytime I've seen him this season except maybe the last two games; the likelihood is he'll be injured again, and I'm not going to say someone's immediately world class again after he has one good game.
BS, you were telling me last season how Rio is poor and barely world class anymore. People like me and Scholes have persistently labelled him world class despite his troubles this season, and for good reason. No-one goes downhill that fast, and it was a clear case of fitness. People are still willing to call Carvalho world class despite his injury-stricken season last term.

I think it's laughable how rapidly you wrote off one of the top 5 defenders of this generation, and you can't even get off your high horse to accept you're wrong.

All I know is Puyol could only have dreamed of being as good ad Ferdinand was on Wednesday.
El Clasico.
That was the performance of a warrior, Ferdinand's was that of a pure thinker, footballing intelligence and experience. Anybody can be a warrior, only great defenders can put in performances like Ferdinand's.
That completely irrelevant, all you said was 'as good'; Puyol's performance was as good, and better. Maybe of Ferdinand was a bit more of a warrior then he might have stopped Tevez scoring.

That's because he was shit towards the end of last season too! That's why I said he was. And people do go down that fast, look at ROnaldinho, look at Shevchenko.

The Carvalho point is cack because he has been good this season.

I'll ignore your pathetic last comment, it's the sort of thing you accuse Scholes of doing.

Ok, defenders don't go downhill that fast then...You gave forwards as your examples.

Yep. Most of these kids don't even understand how important defensive organisation and discipline is, they just look at the names and suddenly think they'll be performing. Sides like Italy and Germany could turn up to a world cup and play their second string defensive line up and still look like a world class unit, not because of the names, but because of the cultures of the players, the defensive nous. Sides like England just don't have that, and should they be forced to play their second string defence they'd be crashing out in a hurry.

Marquez after 05/6, Abidal after joining Barca... I agree it's not as common, but it still does happen.

if Rio was past it then he wouldn't be at Man U and Fergie would of let him go when he had the chance
