In the run up to SA 2010, it might be interesting to consider which side is most solid at the back. This can be a huge factor in tournament success, as Italy proved last time and as Greece showed in 2004. I'd love to say England, but the GK and RB are too dodgy atm. It's probably going to be Italy again. |

what's Italy's back four? Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Chiellini, Gosso? |

As a team probably Brazil, with Puyol and Piqué, Spain are a good shout too - certainly better than the Italians at any rate. England, France and Portugal have better defences than Italy, so will Argentina as well if Maradona pulls his fucking finger out and picks Zanetti, Garay, Samuel and Heinze as his back four. |

Brazil lol, or not. Italy, by some distance. Not just world class starters but the depth too. If Nesta comes out of retirement the defence will be pure wanking material. |

I'd back Italy to let in goals more than I would Brazil. Italy's is just not that great, I've seen Juventus (Italy's defence) around five or six times this season and every time they've looked poor. It's far too reliant on Cheillini; Cannavaro is too slow, Buffon hasn't looked that great recently and over at Milan Zambrotta just isn't that good. Santon should easily get in over him. If Nesta returned to partner Chiellini and Santon was played at RB then yeah, they'd be top class. Lippi will bottle it though. |

If Rio can stay around and build on his impressive last two games then our defence should be fantastic. JT is the best on the planet right now, and we all know that Ferd's class when fit. Ashley Cole adds considerable solidity too, but the real issue is Johnson. I can see that costing us dearly tbh. In big games or against decent attacks I'd even go so far as to suggest Brown should start there. |

I do apologise, I forgot good defences relied solely on personell. The good old days of Trianios Dellas in 2004, surely the best defender of all time would you agree? |

Richards deserves an England call up, he's been world class since Mancio's arrival. Best RB in the league on current form. |
