I must admit I expected him to go missing for 90 minutes like he does in every big game, but tonight was different, he only hid for 75 minutes on this occasion. The last 15 he was pretty good and I was nervous when he was testing Richards and Onuoha but in the end he just lacked the final bit of quality.

Winner.

I said this to elmo just a minute ago, he and Evra were our best players on the night. Rooney started slowly and gave the ball away far too much in the first half. But he was such a threat throughout. He could've scored 4-5 goals tonight were it not for Shay Given, who I thuoght was your MOTM by quite some distance.

What really impressed me about Wayne were his incredibly quick feet and sharp mind as the game progressed. In the last 30 mins or so he looked like he was Zidane or something, and that run for the shot that Given had to poke over the bar was sensational. I think this should be a wake-up call to Fergie tbh: play him SS and buy a proper CF/play Owen.

He can be world class if he's played SS, but he's never going to reach that level at CF.

That's the big point tbh. As soon as Owen came on Rooney looked like the dangerous boy of 2004. Running at players and beating them was something he did brilliantly, then seemed to stop doing for United. If we can get a top class CF with Rooney as SS his performances will improve dramatically.

watching him take on onouha(sp) was a joy to watch, i want to see more of that but what infuriates me is his insistance on placing shots from 25 yards out. he has never scored a goal like that in his career and he never will. ffs just blast the ball...

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

I remember one against Newcastle in I think the 6-0 win, another against Bolton (back heel from Ronaldo) although not as far out but yeah I too would like to see him belt a few shots in instead of placing them.

5-1 win, and that was different.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

What's this rubbish about Owen btw...anyone would think Rooney hasn't dropped deep this season, he has frequently and he was yet to produce like he did last night. City were in their shell whilst Rooney upped his game, great to see but let's forget about Owen here. Giggs and Rooney must start again next week, Giggs is vital to be honest.
