So Dag uses goals and assists to big up Messi, then disregards them when it comes to players like Gerrard. Hmmm.

Success is winning championships. It is nothing less than that. And when you win a championship - and we will - success isn't measured or accomplished by winning once.

Messi doesn't have an entire team built around him like Gerrard.

Why rate Ronaldo at Utd?
Because Ronaldo played a style of football which is fucking brilliant. Ronaldo used his free role to devastating effect, scoring 42 goals, winning the CL and Premier League double, and winning every individual award out there. Also, Ronaldo has proven to be a world class player who led his team to titles while playing a rigid role. (2006/2007)

Ronaldo's situation is a far cry from Gerrard, a player who battles for 4th year in year out.

Pure balls tbh, Gerrard plays brilliant, scores goals, wins trophys, and individual honours

hahah DaG getting owned on this thread. You can't even slag off Gerrard convicingly atm, something that's possibly the second easiest thing to do ever (behind picking a better draft side than yours).

Paddy's post about goals and assists was a brilliant observation, well in, destruction at its finest.

Whoever said Messi is more entertaining than Ronaldinho needs their head caved in. Scholes is utterly right, as usual.

Winner.

There are some issues that have arisen from this thread that have seriously worried me; worried me about DaGunners’ real understanding and passion for the game I love so much.

Ronaldinho at his peak was everything football should be. He played with a passion and a child-like joy that simply sets him apart from the rest.

2003-06 was the story of how a man transcended his sport, setting the world alight, and slamming what the game had become back into the shadows. He reminded us all for a fleeting, but glorious, moment that while football was primarily about winning, it was how you won that set it - as a game and a source of entertainment – apart from everything else in life.

Ant hit the thing bang on the head when he pointed out that you just didn’t know what this conjurer was going to do next. I remember screaming in utter adulation following his bemusement of Ricardo Carvalho and Chelsea FC as he cheekily toe-poked the ball into the net from a full 20 yards. My Dad just didn’t know what’d hit him when he rushed in to marvel at the game’s greatest talent in one of his finest hours.

Now that fleeting moment has gone, and this magician has seemingly left us to enjoy the talents of lesser players. Lionel Messi is verging on replicating Dinho’s consistent efficacy in front of goal and around the box, and he’s become quite some player. Perhaps in years to come we’ll all be lyricising about how this kid continually took the game by storm, scoring goals here-there and everywhere and winning as many trophies as the game can offer.

But he will never surpass what Ronny did to the game for me. Messi can score as many goals as he likes, he can assist for all eternity and he can leave his opponents in his blistering wake till the cows come home; he won’t, though, ever match that Ronaldinho smile.

Ronaldinho is a fat cunt who disrespected the game with his shit tricks, shit attitude, and shit training habits. Messi on the other hand is a fucking machine who knackers himself every match. No contest really.
