Manchester City have emerged as the front runners in the race to sign Lazio striker Mauro Zarate, according to a report from Sky Sports News.

The 22-year-old has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea as well as City in recent days, with his agent confirming earlier today that there was definite interest from the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur were at one stage also reported as tracking the forward, who is believed to have fallen out with his coach at Lazio, Davide Ballardini.

But it appears now that Roberto Mancini's side are the favourites to secure the services of the Argentine, who scored four goals in 14 appearances in a loan spell at Birmingham city in 2008.

He would be an interesting, and quality, option to have. But certainly not at the prices being quoted. It seems nowadays that any player with sufficient technique to run with a ball at their feet is suddenly worth tens of millions. Why I don't know.

Because we've got loads of forwards like him. If we're looking at any attacking player, they need to be somebody prolific and/or powerful to add anything valuable to our squad.

No we don't. We don't have any top dribblers bar Wilshere. But Zarate is a bit brainless.

Can we please sign someone who can dribble, has a brain, can finish, and is heavily involved the entire match?

You're having a laugh aren't you DaG???!!! Three or more of those traits are evident throughout almost our entire crop of attacking minded players.

Cesc: Dribbling, Brain, Finishing, Involvement
RVP: Dribbling, Brain, Finishing, Involvement
Nasri: Dribbling, Finishing, Involvement
Arshavin: Dribbling, Finishing, Brain
Eduardo: Dribbling, Finishing, Brain
Ramsey: Finishing, Involvement, Brain
Rosicky: Involvement, Finishing, Brain
Diaby: Dribbling, Involvement, Finishing

That only leaves Walcott, Vela and Bendtner who don't have three or more of those qualities, but they're so young it may come in time.
