I have to say that I am not overly happy by this move even though I do love Sol Campbell but I loved Ray Parlour too doesn't mean I want him back. I always try to be positive so on the plus side you can say he has experience he knows the club inside out and of course he is probably the best defender we had during the last decade. However he is 35 YEARS OLD :greatpost: he has only played 1 game this season and that was against MORECAMBE so in other words he hasn't played regular competitive football since last season. I was on the bbc forum earlier and some people told me that he got run ragged against Morecambe which isn't exactly encouraging but since he is an Arsenal legend I will welcome him back with both arms and will give him my full support.

HUGE gamble or no-brainer?
We'll find out soon enough about Arsene Wenger's decision to make Sol Campbell the first Arsenal player he has ever re-signed.

Earlier last month, Alex Ferguson shot down rumours linking the former England centre-half with Manchester United, saying: "Sol Campbell was a great player but he is not someone we are thinking of bringing here."

The word "was" told you everything you needed to know.

United's boss had probably heard the rumours about 35-year-old Campbell's legs going at Portsmouth.

Maybe he viewed Campbell's bizarre walk-out on Notts County after just one game as evidence all wasn't quite right with the player psychologically - a player, remember, who did a famous runner at half-time against West Ham in 2006.

Wenger, though, appears to have no doubts.

Having seen him close up in training for the last three months, he believes his former skipper is ready to return.

Certainly, all the noises coming out of London Colney have been about Campbell's tremendous condition, renewed fitness and weight loss.

Wenger will also have looked at a fixture list that sees Arsenal facing seven games in the next month including successive games against Aston Villa, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

And he will have looked at the centre of his defence and thought: how much longer can I get away with it?

Campbell was available on a pay-as-you-go contract until the end of the season.

He is also a man with an enormous point to prove after the slaughtering he received for walking out on Notts County.

In many ways, it IS a no-brainer - especially at a time where purse strings are ever-tightening.

If he does play a part in Arsenal picking up a trophy, it could prove a far better deal (and certainly more cost-effective) than the £140,000 a week Manchester City have gambled on Patrick Vieira.
