Come on, taking a wee during a game is not that unusual.

But he definitely seems to have psychological problems. He's always been a very different person behind the guy on the pitch/in football in general. If you've ever met the private person he is clever, shy, very nice, a family man and someone who does a lot of charity stuff. If that nice person would stand on the pitch he would have given up a long time ago. Even his wife says he is a stranger to her when he plays football, that's how different a person he is then.

I think his problem is that he is so obsessed with having success and perfectionism it really drives him insane when things don't go well. I remember he once said sometimes he thinks in his whole career he has not done anything but fail. Clearly he has not and others would kill for a bit of the success he's had, but that only shows what he demands of himself. Something I noticed because I get to see him more often in German interviews is that he can't accept compliments. Reminds me of people who have such high expections of themselves a complement means saying something good about something they regard as not good enough. Sorry for my bad English, I don't know how to explain it any better. The only times I remember he seemed to be able to accept something nice said about him was when he had success because then he was content with his achievements for a chance.

But about that particular scene: take in account what happened before that. Bance hits his knee and it twists a bit, causing a capsule rupture. Lehmann gets treatement and the Mainz fans insult him. Later he steps on Bance's foot who acts like.. well, he clearly acts and the ref gives out a very harsh red card and the penalty goes along with it. After the game gets hunted down by godknows how many cameras through the stadium, they don't allow him to get any food and the fan talks some s**t to him. I think he can be happy he only took his glasses instead of hitting him. And later they hunt him down at Munich airport as well and he even has to ask a journalist for money to buy some food because he doesn't have any cash with him. That one I find a bit disturbing because two years ago he collapsed after an international game because of low blood sugar when he hadn't eaten after the game. :|

Anyway, it would take a lot of time to make a list of the s**t the papers and tv has pulled off since he returned to Germany. He moves the wrong finger and it is a headline all over the papers. Stuff that would never be discussed in public in England is constantly present. In England players who are a bit more eccentric are not unusual and if someone does everything to win a game it is usually appriciated. In Germany they bash him all over the place, especially if he is someone like Lehmann who never made a secret out of how he despises those journalists and refuses to be at the ready for interviews all the time.
But like I said in another thread, in Germany we are at the point where he gets kicked, the other player gets booked and everyone will bash Lehmann for letting himself get kicked. No, I am not exaggerating. He had a good last season, this season he is still easily VfBs best and most consistent player but it doesn't matter. He had the best fitness tests last season, an almost 40-year old, the goalie training became much tougher because of him, he was never injured, didn't lose them a single point but all the papers did was complaining about him being allowed to have a day off after games to be with his family (his family lives near Munich because the kids go to an international English-speaking school). It has just been constant psycho terror.

And the way he acted after the game on Sunday was scary. He looked pretty paralised and one has to wonder if those journalist assholes have not learned anything from Enkes' suicide. These people are still human beings and apparently they only start to see.. no, write about that for one week after a guy finally couldn't cope with it anymore. Maybe they should ask themselves why so many goalies who played on a top level for a long time seem a bit crazy, are aggressive or suffered from depression and anxiety (Kahn talked about that and Buffon also said he suffered from depressions for some time).

That's why I wouldn't mind him back at Arsenal, if only on the bench or whatever. The British papers may be rubbish but I think the clubs protect their players a lot better. Rant over.

Who wrote that Wrighty? It was very good, a nice insight into Jens, but the lad is clearly trying to act more German than he is. "Sorry for my bad English", you're a nutter, he's just wrote 1000 words of literature worthy of any English native.
