Chelsea got their campaign off to a flying start when they beat Manchester United on penalties in the Community Shield, then cruised to eight consecutive Premier League wins - all in their traditional royal-blue kit.

But they came unstuck when they played in their navy and yellow second strip for the first time, crashing 3-1 at Wigan.

Blues wore the same outfit for the 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa and again as they slipped to a Carling Cup penalty-shootout defeat at Ewood Park after drawing 3-3 with Blackburn at the end of extra-time.

On Saturday, Chelsea again donned the jinxed colours and slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Manchester City at Eastlands.

The only four times they have worn the new navy strip, they have ended up on the losing side.

United were hit by a similar curse when they wore grey on their travels.

It got so bad that players changed out of the strip when 3-0 down at half-time to Southampton in 1996. They lost 3-1.

How strange. It's almost as if they play better when they're at home :deepthought:

I don't know why they didn't wear their white kit at Villa Park, their dark kit looks ugly with Villa's darkish home kit as well.

Bit of a nothing article though really...of course they're unbeaten in the royal blue kit, they play at home in it every game and rarely away.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Mate, I don't get it. If Liverpool were sponsored by Carlsberg in the years they failed to win the league in the 80s, it might be worth noting

List all of Chelsea's away games and tell me what away kit, or home kit, they wore in each game.
