that will be good buisness
i know what ya sayin that richardson is a better centre midfielder but he still is a decent left winger thts the position he started hes career so he used to it
he can play there, but i dont think he's half as good there. but if we sign cattermole, i suppose we could leave cana and cattermole in front of the back 4 at all times and let our 2 wingers attack all the time

Sunderland will lack a lot of creativity and movement in the centre with Cana and Cattermole occupying the CM spots, but it's one hell of a brutal CM pairing.

yeah, imo we need either a creative cm, and move richardson to the left or keep richardson in the middle and buy a LM. richardson is the most creative player but the runs he makes create chances if u no what i mean lol

Good signing, for 6m as well. Cana and Cattermole will totally destroy teams.

As long as McCartney attacks down the left to give us width we will have a good team, Rico can move inside on attacks.

Official:

Sunderland have today confirmed that they have signed England Under-21 midfielder Lee Cattermole from Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

The Black Cats' paid the Latics £6 million to secure the players' services, and manger Steve Bruce was delighted to have snapped up the Stockton-on-Tees-born 21-year-old, who came through Middlesbrough's famed youth academy.

"Lee has everything that I like in a player so I'm delighted to have brought him to Sunderland," he told the club's official website.

"He is a terrific footballer. He is young, strong and has a real passion for the game that I'm sure our supporters will love.

"As a North East lad, he understands what it means to represent a club in this region and will bring some real bite to our side.

"Lee is a great addition and will strengthen us through the spine of the team while creating real competition across midfield."

Cattermole was signed by Bruce whilst he was Wigan manager last summer, and moves after a successful season in Lancashire, where he played 33 times for the Latics.

He has 14 England Under-21 caps, and joins Darren Bent, Lorik Cana, Fraizer Campbell and Paulo Da Silvaas new arrivals at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Winner.

6 million rising to 10 after appearances. Massive price for an average English player.

SS says it's rising to 8m. Not 10.

Its 6m rising to 8m and thats an excellent deal for a young English player imo, not over priced at all, Wigan paid 3.5m for him and he was "their best player" last season according to most Wigan fans so they are going to want to make a profit...he was captain as well at some point and is in the England U21...

It's 6 to 8. Confirmed.

It's great to have selection troubles for once but if Bruce plays Richardson on the left I won't be a happy man. The lack of creativity claims aren't really true, we have a mixed style of play and always look to the wings for options, Malbranque for example. Richardson is creative, as is Jones would you believe it, constantly bringing others into play and finding openings with a pass/head.

Opening day I would try the below but I'm not sure we're good enough or disciplined enough to use such a formation. Steed is easily capable of playing in the middle and tracks back nicely. If it had to be a 4-4-2 then I'd have Malbranque, Cana, Richardson, Reid.

Fulop
Bardsley Ferdinand Collins McCartney
Steed Cana Cattermole
Richardson
Jones Bent

BTW, we're signing Distin in the next few days.

I'd still like a RB and a CB.

I can see Cattermole starting to get into trouble again though.
