Most people weren't alive when Pele was playing, doesn't stop them calling him the best ever though. Dalglish doesn't even slightly compare to Henry, not even close, and this furthermore proves that Diego is too nostalgic in his views and gives way too much respect to the players of old, and not enough to the players of today. If Diego made a top 50 players of all time list, I suspect Henry wouldn't even be in it, which is just sickening. Sheer nostalgia.

GTFO of this thread! Zidane was a fucking instant hit at Juventus in '96 and before that he was the best player in France. He and Alex went on a fucking rampage winning the Scudetto, Super Cup & Intercontinental Cup. Won the Serie A foreign footballer of the year in his first year when he upset some Juve fans. Means nothing you say? Well other winners included Ronaldo, Batistuta, Shevchenko and Nedved. None winning it in their first Serie A season. He was "bossing" it around before the 98 WC when he helped lead Juve to 2 CL finals within his first 2 seasons. He was the best player at Bordeaux and at Juve he was the best player, arguable with Del Piero there. 1998 season:- By this time he already cemented himself as one of the best players, if not the best. It became "official" when he was awarded the 1998 Ballon d’Or, along with other individual accolades such as FIFA World Player of the Year, French Player of the Year and Champions League Best Midfielder as the world sat up to recognize the unbelievable talent before them. So even before the 98 World Cup he was already recognised as the World's best player, and even by some in '97. We all know the 1998 WC story, won the WC, scored a few goals and then by some idiots only then was he the World's best player. Last few seasons for Zizou were a bit quiet as he suffered a loss in confidence with Juve failing to win any major honours. But in Euro 2000 he showed why he was the World's best. He actually did lead France to victory in the Euros with late goals against Spain and an extra time penalty against Portugal. At the moment in time he was back to his precocious genius and was voted player of the tourno and FIFA World Player. 2001 was uneventful for Juve but Zidane had the best season, domestic wise, and moved to Real for pennies. Left to play for the Galaticos who were fucking failures and where Zidane was one of a few bright sparks. Still made the team of the years and other awards but honours wise it was sheeeet though he won the La Liga and scored a stunning goal to win the 2003 CL Final that was pretty much it for the rest of his Madrid career. On the national front, 2002 WC was one to forget, same went for the Euro 2004. For Real, Zidane was still "bossing" it. He wasn't as "volatile" as he started to age but still won the World player of the year in '03 and with fuckers like Figo underperforming near the mid 00's he was still churning out performances. 05 was a shit season imo with Ronaldinho overshadowing him, that, I think, was the season he decided would be one of his last. 2006 season, putting it into perspective, was astonishing. Again Real failing to win trophies, but with Raul and Casillas, Zidane was amongst the few to actually shine that season. While Ronaldinho was grabbing all the headlines the '06 WC was set up perfectly for the final chapter. France were in turmoil with a goalless draw against Switzerland and S.Korea and then just about managing through the group with a less then convincing win against Togo. Domenech, as usual, incompetent. Zinedine "The Burden" Zidane inspiring them with a win against Spain, creating a Man of the Match and even Man of the tournament performance against Brazil (showcasing one of the greatest World Cup performances) and scoring the only goal against Portugal to send them through to the World Cup Final. Ironic that he came undone against the nation that he dazzled and entranced for so many years, however, fitting at the same time because it was the nation where he made a name for himself and shaped the player he was then. Burden? He carried them to the World Cup Final just like he did in 2000 and just how he won the final 1998. Like he did with Juventus domestically, and how he played such a crucial role in Real's 2003 La Liga triumph. His final tournament and he was named player of the tournament and I will stand by that he was still the best player on the planet even when his career finished. He still had the ability to control and dictate games even until the end of his career. His performance against Brazil was up there with his best and that speaks volumes about his consistency. His nerve was the same from when he scored the 117th minute penalty in Belgium as it was in Berlin with the cheeky chip. His leadership progressed with age, by leading France to the 2006 World Cup. He was an excellent captain for France having to control leaders like Vieira, Thuram, Henry and Makelele. They were falling apart in Germany but he came back from his suspension and that's when things turned around for France. Never could a player caress the ball the way he did and his vision was only limited to a select few. His ability to run through the middle of the park untroubled, or even to ride off a tackle. From 1993-2006, he managed to play at least 40 games a season and up to 60 a season during 2001-2004. Just a testament of how great his physical stature and not suffering from a serious injury throughout his career. He was never short of nifty skills with the "Zidane Roulette" and the sneaky back-heel. Always aware of his surroundings and Lizarazu summed it up when he said "Whenever we were in doubt, Jacquet told us to look up and find Zidane". But one of the best parts of his game? That sublime touch. While some bolt under pressure, Zidane could control whether it be with his chest, thigh or feet. (Take a look at 1.15 on the first vid and then 2.23 on the final vid. 8 years on and he was still able to run through the middle of the pack taking on two players and then setting up a run, but it was always highly under-estimated). Burden? Who the fuck would have Real picked? Santiago "fucking" Solari or Guti rather than Zidane? Silly comment to make, he was never a burden at any team. But I would be pleased to tell me why so he was a burden? Simple, he was the best at Bordeaux, he was the best at Juventus, he was the best at Real and he was the best ever for France. To say that he was a burden on any team is fucking hilarious. He produced consistent performances from 96-06 and one of the main reasons why Ronaldinho isn't better than Zidane? Because he was no-where near on the consistency level. You could always rely on him to come out on top during the big games and the leadership side to him is always under-rated. It only took a split second to remind yourself why he was the World's best player a la sublime volley against Leverkusen. He did go missing against some of the lesser teams but that epitomises Zidane; "minimal effort, maximum effect". |

Zidane has a goal scoring record similar to Alex Hleb FFS. Totti out assisted him and out scored him, as did Baggio, as did Rivaldo, as did Laudrup. |

Diego biased against Arsenal, ? if you havent noticed Diego is more biased against Liverpool than you, but he still think Dalglish is better than Henry, and seeing as he has seen both live over there careers and you have not, you should let him have his opinion And Good post Zeezou, saves me arguing for Zidane |

Wash your mouth out will you? We're talking about Thierry Henry not Wayne fucking Rooney, Henry did it week in week out not in bursts, he was consistent season after season. What makes Dalglish better than Henry? |
