Manchester City Should Be Title Favourites - Aston Villa Boss Martin O'Neill
'MON' joins the ranks of the vocal bosses miffed over Man City's bankroll...

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has boldly stated in The Times that Manchester City should be amongst the favourites to take the Premier League title in the upcoming season.

"City might not be favourites to win the league but they should be," the Aston Villa manager said.

"If Kolo Toure goes to the club and they still haven’t stopped spending, they have as good a chance as anyone."

An admission from Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the Scot feels the Citizens are a "small club with a small mentality", but O'Neill harbours an entirely different view on the subject.

"All they have got is 38 league games and the League Cup and FA Cup, which does not start until January," O’Neill said.

"I would say now that the top four has become a genuine top five."

Villa themselves have been tipped by many as contenders for a spot in the top four, but their Northern Irish gaffer feels that the spending power of City has put a spanner in the works for more than just his own squad.

"The frustration has come from the type of players they have been able to attract," he said.

"You are looking at trying to get value for money, but Manchester City are putting it beyond an awful lot of teams.

"You think, well, you got quite close last year and suddenly another club has just stepped over you immediately before you can go on. It kind of punctures you.

"I’m sure if you asked [Everton boss] David Moyes he would think the same thing."

However, the 57-year-old admits that he is curious about City's chances in the forthcoming season.

"This situation reminds me of Chelsea about five years ago," he added.

"There’s part of me that’s actually quite excited to see how they will do."

if man city win the title it would be the biggest shock in football, it might actually be a good thing for the prem (shaking up the power structure)

on second thoughts it would be devastating to the smaller teams, the transfer market will spiral out of control, small clubs will struggle to keep players with their current wage structure and teams like hull, stoke, bolton etc could not only drop from the league but also be forced into admin for "over-reaching" ala leeds
