Jose Mourinho has revealed that he would like to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Ferguson, 67, has stated his intention to step down at Old Trafford before 2012, but at the moment he shows few signs of giving up the reins after 23 years in charge.

But former Chelsea boss Mourinho has admitted he would readily consider taking charge of United.

"I would consider going to Manchester United but United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson," the Inter Milan chief told the Daily Mirror.

"If they do, then of course.

"I like England, where the fans are very passionate and make the game a beautiful occasion with such an incredible atmosphere."

Mourinho left England two years ago when he quit as boss of Chelsea and he returned to football last season as he guided Inter Milan to the Serie A title.

It has not passed Mourinho by, however, that Chelsea have failed to win the title since his departure.

"I had many conversations before Chelsea and I decided on a divorce," he continued.

"It was difficult for me because we loved each other but the relationship went in one direction and it was best for everyone.

"Since I left I became a champion again but they have not been champions again. I keep on winning and they don't."

He won't want to leave until the club surpass Liverpool's league title record, and he'll go all out to win as much as he can, leaving his mark as the most successful manager at English (if not the world) club level football...ever.

As for Jose, I'm sure he would, but whoever replaces Fergie, their task should never be to emulate Fergie's achievements, as it's just not possible.

Moyes or Jol.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

I'd cry if Jose took over at United, their dominance would continue for a long time if he took over. If he came to City, it'd be the happiest day of my City life...

Don't want him. Mourinho is a short-term manager, he will go to a club and win a title or two and want to move somewhere else to prove how special he is. Sure he's a great manager but I want someone who will stay at the club for 5 years at the very very least. Mourinho won't do that, if he did stay long-term then I'd be interested in having a manager of his quality taking charge but what's the point in having a manager for a couple of years and then looking for a new one.

We're lucky we have Fergie who along with doing an amazing job and keeping the club strong, has the club in good shape today and when he steps down, the likes of Vidic, Rooney, Evans, Nani and Evra will be the top players coming into their prime years, while hopefully the Da Silva twins, Macheda, Ljajic, Petrucci and some new blood will be the up and coming stars. Perfect for a new manager to come in and develop and grow. I don't want Mourinho coming in and packing his bags after 3 years and stifling all that talent, players don't need three managers all with different methods if they're to develop properly. They need continuity, so no way Jose, stay the sheep away from Utd.

Winner.

I find it hard to believe that he believes the stuff he says. Yes, he's been a champion since he left Chelsea, after taking over a side that finished 20 points clear as winners the year before. Yes, Chelsa haven't been champions since he left, but that was after leaving the cub 8 points behind in the title race. They also got to the CL final after he left, which he never managed to do at Chelsea.

Seriously, comments like this jsut show what a desperate attention-seeker he actually is. Pathetic
