Yes, and as an intelligent footballer you know exactly where the defender is and can detect movement without looking at it directly.
Yes I know..

But to me it looks as if he is out of sight the whole time.

Don't know what video you're watching but it's clearly intentional. Before he even receives the ball he will see that Bruno is committing to him, he just outwits him based on this knowledge.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Greatest ownage machine: Scholes. Absolute animal when he was a regular poster, I always knew I was in the right when he was backing me up, and I couldn't wait to read a topic that he was posting in because I knew he'd be tearing someone apart

Clearly intended, don't need to glance to see where the defender is, it's like a reflex to some players, they know the space that they have and where to go with the ball. Bergkamp vs. Newcastle is another prime example

Forget it mate, having a good footballing brain allows you to read situations and have panoramic awareness without even looking. May sound strange but trust me on it.

I know what you're saying, but you need to have at least one look to see the general area where the defender is so you can anticipate him coming for the ball.

He clearly just sees someone when he's about to turn, his instincts just take over from there. Just the sort of thing a classy player like RvP does regularly.

As I said, I may be wrong about him not seeing him which would make it intentional. Was just giving a reason for calling it lucky..

RVP will have known he was there for sure, I can assure you on that. I know when players are coming from behind me and from the side without even looking at them, you can feed of other people's reactions, the way other people stare at them, the sound of someone running from behind etc, not to mention you'll get calls from teammates and the crowd in the pro game.

Yeah apart from the fact that he would have felt the defender's presence anyways, the reactions of the players he can see would only confirm what he suspects.

Most importantly he is no more than facing at a 90 degree angle to the guy.

Winner.
