Zanetti, Cambiasso, Motta/Muntari can compete with anyone. That has never been Inter's problem, it has been creating chances.

Sure they can compete with Italian midfields, but I saw them last year against United; their midfield was destroyed. They played the game at too slow a pace and were easily shut down in possession, and chased the game when they didn't have the ball. It was the same story against Bremen in the group stages.

Evidently, playing a narrower formation and including Hleb and Cassano will help increase their speed and creativity but the fact remains that Cambiasso is the only player in that midfield worthy of winning the CL. Zanetti is what, 36 now? Despite being an undoubted legend, he'll start feeling it soon. Motta is a nothing player, and Muntari doesn't add much.

Winner.

But United's mf is poor compared to the other top sides in Europe, and they managed to win the CL and get to the final last season, so I can't see that being a reason for Inter not doing it. Besides, I'd rather have Inter's mf at United than what United currently have.

Dag's right, it's all about creativity for them now :deepthought:

So despite having this poor midfield, United completely dominated Inter's midfield...

Disagree. The midfield battle at Old Trafford was very even, I would actually say Inter had the better midfield. If it wasn't for Adriano hitting the post United would have been out.

And the San Siro? That was in no way even.

United's midfield is no way near as poor as some people like to make out. Carrick and Fletcher are top class players, just because they don't have fancy names people like to mock.

Seriously, Frank Lampard is an absolute legend of the game. He needs to be recognised in some way eg. Frank Lampard OBE, Sir Frank Lampard or some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Carrick was fantastic at the San Siro and brilliant in all three Arsenal games towards the end of the season.

Carrick top class :hysterics: ..I want to smash his face in wih a bat after looking lost in another big game. But Super Flect made Carrick look decent in the Arsenal game with his energy and will imo. We miss him in the final :tremble:

So why is Carrick ahead of Fletcher in the pecking order?

Because fergie is clueless once again :hysterics: ..nah but he's a better passer than Super Flecth and a better link player between midfield and attack but without a player like super flecth in the big games Carrick is basically worthless which we see plenty times
