His best years were the nineties where he turned defenders inside out for fun and as a teenager was touted as the next George Best. No doubt he has been a great player and a model pro, but he's regarded too highly by many. He's lacked the consistency that Paul Scholes has had and this decade in particular has been up and down, and only last season has he had a better season than Paul Scholes in the last 10 years. In 07/08 he was shambolic, and everyone that wrote him off at the end of that season were right to. In hindsight these people may look foolish after a good campaign last season, but it got to the point where you were counting how many times he'd give the ball away. That is all. |

Agree. Nowhere near the likes of Figo despite what many United fans would try telling you. But his longevity is to be admired and he's still one of the top 10 wingers of this generation. |

I said on the footy forum that Ronaldo is the best winger the prem has seen and I still stick by those words ..what Ronaldo did in his last three years in the Prem/Europe has surpass what giggs has done in his United career imo. Ronaldo is probably the second best United player ever and he only played six years at OT .

What complete bullshit. Look Ronaldo was no better than Giggs 93-03 in his first 3 seasons, that is a fact. He was more inconsistent than Giggs ever was except for his last 3 years which he is past his best and well into his 30's. Ronaldo in the last 3 years has had fantastic seasons, scoring 42 goals, helping us to 3 successive PL titles and a CL. If that is better than what Giggs has done for us during his career. 11 PL titles, 2 CL, 3 CC, 4 FA Cups, Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, World Club Championship, well then the world has officially gone crazy. It doesn't matter if Ronaldo has had 2-3 seasons better than any season Giggs has had, you add up what each has given us and there's only one winner and he ain't fucking Portuguese. |

When I criticise Ronaldo ..I've been the one has backing Ronaldo from day one and saying he's the most important United player last season and especially over the most over rated player in English football which is Rooney. But I did say his reactions sometimes on the pitch when things don't go his way made him loook like a right tw@t but you could say the same about the "white pele" <

Giggs has never been the main focus point at Utd, it was either Cantona, Beckham, Cole/Yorke or RvN. Ronaldo was at the centre of everything we did in the last 3 seasons so he is obviously going to reap the benefits and at the end of the day he has great finishing skills, takes penalties and free-kicks. He is a winger but he is also a striker, he has everything needed to be one and when we needed someone to be the man running in behind defences he was the one to do it. Giggs hasn't had that ability, he did play as a forward a lot but mainly as a second striker considering he has been compatible with every single player to play at Utd in 15 years. He never played as advanced a role as Ronaldo, never took penalties and only briefly took free-kicks in 2003/04 when Beckham had gone and Ronaldo wasn't demanding he took them. He even scored a beauty on Ronaldo's debut v Bolton. So comparing goal records is not fair, Ronaldo plays a role that allows him to get into more scoring positions and take set-pieces. If you go by assists then it's a different story, Giggs has had a few and he has been very good at creating for others during his career, his crossing has let him down at times but then so has Ronaldo's, when he's willing to give the ball to others that is. Behind all the stats there is the contribution that the player has made to the success of the team during that period, Giggs might not have scored 42 goals before, he might not have won the Balon D'Or or World Player of the Year but he has excited the fans at OT a lot especially in his early days, given the fans some great memories and has contributed to the clubs greatest and most successful era from pretty much the start of it all. I think it's only the FA Cup 1990 and the Cup Winners' Cup 1991 that are the only trophies Fergie has won, that Giggs didn't. Stats only tell you part of the story and while Ronaldo has some incredible stats from the last 3 seasons, what Giggs has done in his career and for Manchester United well surpasses what Ronaldo has done for us and in all fairness I doubt by the time Ronaldo's career is finished he will have given as much to Man Utd and Real Madrid as what Giggs has given to his one and only club. |
