I wouldn't count Ireland out in all honesty, they're a decent solid team and will be better than quite a few of the teams there. Greece won Euro 2004 by virtue of having one of the most organised, solid and tactically discliplined defenses of all time, nothing to do with talent and star names. There was not one world class player in that Greek team, so we can safely say star names do not always win you tournaments. Look at the USA, came so close to the confederations cup, not because of talent, because of organisation and team spirit. Ireland have the manager capable of masterminding something like what we've seen from the Greeks, and they also have a few top players. If Stevey Ireland were to join up with the team I'd make them slight dark horses for the tournament, well worth a cheeky bet. |

Wow, I'd love to see that. I'll be cheering on Ireland if he's playing for them, to win a WC would see him blessed with lavish praise and incredible recognition, he'd be a shoe in for player of the tournament and the Ballon D'or if he won the WC... |

Yeah Turkey were very good I must admit but I think Brazil were going to it no matter what, it just seemed like their year. Ireland though with a little less bad luck could've got to the semi's and maybe beyond, our route wasn't really difficult. Any team with balls would've beaten South Korea and it was a crying shame we lost to Spain on pens, especially after missing one in normal time. I'm convinced that we would've got to the final had we beaten the Spanish that day, and that's without Roy Keane. We hardly ever play great football but we play with a lot of heart and are hard to keep down when we go on a roll. Turkey played some really great stuff during that World Cup and if you had met Germany in the semi, you would've reached the final. They only beat South Korea 1-0 anyways with a Ballack goal. Germany weren't that good apart from Ballack, but that's why you can never rule them out, they always seem to do the job, that's why I wouldn't rule out them winning it next year no matter how shit they look. |

Really? We can beat Italy at Croker anyways but with Ireland in midfield we will be able to cut through them, we done pretty well last time but whe you play Italy you have to keep foucused and believe because it can seem impossible to score after 80mins of havng your attempts shut down. If we beat Italy and Bulgaria draw with the Italians, we have a great chance of winning the group. I really don't want a play-off, our record is horrible losing to Turkey, Netherlands and Belgium. We have such bad luck in them. |

Yep Trapp contacted him and they're having a meeting in 2 weeks. Yeah we can, and if we don't I'll be disappointed tbh - with or without Ireland. We should have beaten them in Bari. they're not a great team by any means and we've a fantastic chance of winning the group if we beat them. 2nd is pretty much secured but as you said I wouldn't fancy a play-off either. |

S. Reid will probably never stay fit. Been injured on and off for a few seasons now. And why settle for A.Reid when theres a great chance of getting Ireland? A.Reid won't play again under Trappatoni anyway imo. |

Trappatoni's style of management is very like that of Greece 2004 though. Extremely cautious and set up not to lose rather than go for a win. |
