Sky Sources understand Manchester City have made a £25million bid to Barcelona for striker Samuel Eto'o.

On Sunday, Barca president Joan Laporta claimed affluent club City had made a "stratospheric offer" to Eto'o.

The Cameroon international's future is the subject of conjecture as he enters the final year of his current contract.

With just 12 months to run on his deal with the European champions, he could leave Camp Nou as a free agent next summer.

Eto'o's agent is set to hold a press conference on Tuesday in a bid to clarify the Barcelona striker's future.

Reports emanating from Spain suggest Eto'o's representative, Jose Maria Mesalles, is to announce the forward plans to see out his deal at Barca.

City manager Mark Hughes has signed two players since the end of the season, with midfielder Gareth Barry arriving from Aston Villa at the beginning of June.

Last week, long-term target Roque Santa Cruz completed a reported £18million move from Blackburn Rovers.

Hughes is keen to build a side breaking into the top four, and the potential arrival of Eto'o would prove a coup for the ambitious Eastlands outfit.

Tevez :hysterics:
Thats your opinion but it doesn't escape from the fact that they will likely have a better squad and first 11 than you.
If I was you I would be worried. City will end Utd's dominance, you will end up being the 2nd best team in Manchester come next season...you heard it here first. Without Ronaldo you are nothing.
Like it! Unfortunately I'm not confident we'll get Eto'o, don't really think we'll get Maicon either, so I don't think our team will be as good as Arsenal's next season, but I do think Arsenal cannot be complacent, even if we start the season with the team we have now we can push them and if Arsenal have a season like last we could easily scare them. United will fall now, and in a few years time City will be better than United, and with their city rivals finishing above them players won't want to move to United anymore.

I've read the article and I have to say that there is no sound reasoning for asserting that Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool won't be the favourites for the title.

Liverpool:
Johnson may have cost £17 mn but 7mn of that was not from Rafa's transfer budget, as it was drawn from money owed to them by Portsmouth. Last season they were desperately close and this came without having Gerrard and Torres in tandem anything like as much as was needed. Finally, we have no idea who else will be signed, however the potential losses of Alonso and Mascherano is a massive issue.

Chelsea:
Showed the best form of the top 4 once the squad was united under Hiddink, with additions and unity under Ancelloti they will be serious contenders.

Man Utd:
Yes Ronaldo is off and Tevez will be joining him. But consider this, Tevez was remarkably ineffective last season- Macheda for instance could replace his impact from the bench- and Ronaldo was uncommitted. Valencia is not the answer, but a new striker and Rooney playing in his favoured position could have a massive impact on the goals lost from those two. Furthermore, with £100 mn to spend there may be a number of new players to keep the squad fresh and determined.

As for Arsenal, its becoming the age old coda to say that this is their season. How often has that been repeated? I think its time to accept 2 things.
(1) The squad is woefully thin.
(2) The first 11 is unbalanced.
If these two issues are addressed then they will be competitive but I see little more than that and find it illogical in the extreme to credit them with the honour of serious title challengers.

City title favourites, no. I don't see that this needs real rationalisation as the rationle is there for all to see.

There will be a battle between Chelsea, Liverpool and Utd for 1st spot and a battle between Arsenal and City for 4th.

As to Utd being most likely to fall here are some of the promising youngsters already at the club who will allow us to stay competitive:
Foster, Rafael, Fabio, Evans, Cathcart, Possebon, Anderson, Nani, Tosic, Ljajic, Welbeck and Macheda. Bascially we have a whole first 11 of promising youngsters. So any notion of an imminent fall is, frankly, naieve and hopefull at best.

Worse than average, most will never get anywhere. Tosic looks a talent, as does Rafael, but other than that they'll all be the next Chris Eagles/Keiran Richardson...

All I here is talk of how Wilshere will be god, well Ljajic is rated enormously (higher than the rest of the players on that list).
